Palm tree removal
 

We live in a cyv and have a big, messy washingtonian Palm. Any recommendations on who can cut this down?

Before you cut, you may want to check with ARC(?), in some areas trees with trunks above 4 inches need permission before these can be removed.

If you live in a courtyard villa, you do not need ARC permission. Of you send me a private message, I can email you the verification. I just went through this last week. Also, highly recommend Ace Tree Service, 352-787-9390. Very professional - show up timely, etc. We also did the 811 Florida to mark all of our utilities as our tree happened to be in the front yard.

Be careful who you hire. We had bids of $350 - $1400 to remove two 25' Washingtonians. We took the highest bid Ace Tree Svc 352-787-9390 because they had proof of I insurance and liability. We also have paved bricks on the driveway and were concerned about the closeness of the neighbors house. We went through ARC and were approved as long as we also removed the stumps. Job was well done. We had bottlebrush trees planted in their place. What would I have done different? We have River Rock in our beds. Before the tree removal I would myself rake the rocks out of the way before the trees were removed. As a result the Rock was all messed with the sand from the hole and stump grinding resulting in extra charges with the landscaper. It was something that needed to be clarified. Good luck!

Question......what if you don't get permission? I figure if I planted it then it wouldn't be there without me. If I remove it then there is nothing lost. I'm sure there is a fine and maybe sometimes the fine is worth paying to get rid of a tree that is nothing but work and trouble.

I head read at one time the fine is $500 but don't know how enforced this is. The ARC is concerned over the live oak trees being removed. Filling out the paperwork and getting it approved was easy for us. We had planned on getting the stumps removed but this was the extra listed on the approval. Maybe there could be something different included for your trees. Why not be safe than sorry

Did anyone else loose their Queen palms in the December freeze? Do you know a good insured company to remove it? Thanks!

Are you sure it's dead? You might want to wait until spring to see if new fronds appear.

Plant mule palms instead. They are frost resistant. They are (iMhO) prettier than a queen Palm. Mule palms are sterile, a cross between a pindo & a Queen. Also sort of expensive, but well worth it.

December freeze? Where do you live? One night the low was 35. A few other nights the lows were in the upper 30s. All remaining nights were warmer. Definitely wait before removing your trees.

My Queen Palm died immediately from a fungus called Fumarian I think that's the spelling. I thought it was the cold it's a disease that hits the tree quickly. One day the tree is beautiful the next day the leaves are completely brown.
