Patio Curtain Rods

I'm trying to mount curtain rods in my patio on the posts separating the screened in portions. I have no problem going through the stucco, but I am hitting what appears to be a metal plate which I can't seem to penetrate. Has anyone encountered the same problem while trying to hang curtains and if so, how did you solve the problem? Any feedback would be appreciated.

You're hitting a U shaped metal beam that spans the gap between the posts of the lanai. I ruined several bits trying to get through it. I called a handyman who installed several things for us and he declined the job. We just cancelled the project. Hope your luck is better.

I'm not sure where you are drilling holes by your description but there is no metal in these homes that can not be drilled with the correct drill and speed. Get good drills, preferably tin. coated (gold color) and use a slow speed or you'll ruin it, maybe 500 rpms. Also put a little cutting fluid on the drill to lubricate and cool it.

Here is another suggestion.

I am assuming that you are using concrete bits for the stucco, these in general will not cut through metal. Get a COBALT bit the correct size, and use it JUST FOR GETTING THROUGH THE METAL, then go back to the concrete bit if you need to go deeper. Cobalt bits will go through just about any metal. I know the ACE hardware's carry these bits.

CAUTION: If you use the cobalt bits on the concrete you will ruin them, then you will be asking me to sharpen them, as I have a drill bit sharpener.

Hope this helps.
