so all those rich rock and roll celebrities feel like isolated rats in a cage. Billionaire travel the globe end to end feel like caged rats and so on and so on.

i still believe that some people are wired such that some have a highly addictive personality and i don't care whee they live how much love and attention they get or do not get they can get addicted on almost anything

I think it is a complex issue with complex causes. And sometimes we have the "chicken or the egg" scenario where people who start to drink in excess isolate them selves more to hide it, and it becomes self-perpetuating.

Also, I know people who lived in very loving family conditions and had jobs they loved, and still fought addiction. I would not want their families to think they were the cause of it.

Isolation is probably important to consider as a contributing factor.

I have always held that craving anything…. ANYTHING- comes from the belief that the having of what is craved will make oneself FEEL better.

It's really a complex issue.......with no one formula fits all.

Below are some statistics from a treatment center....taken over the years.
Knock on wood, but to our knowledge, we know of no one in our huge family who is on drugs. Thank God. Our teens' (children, nieces, nephews, etc. generation had the slogan "Just Say No"......) None of them even smoke cigarettes.

Our kids' generation are the vegans, vegetarians, healthy eaters, exercise lovers (cycling, skiing, running, hiking, walking, swimming, competitive sports, etc., etc. etc.) who choose to raise their own little ones in a healthy lifestyle. We are blessed for sure.

Various national drug and health agencies have studied opiate addiction over the years, releasing their findings to the general public.

Professional drug treatment centers in the addiction arena have used the following opiate addiction statistics to provide inpatient rehabilitation services to those who suffer from opiate addiction, aiming to give them freedom from a life dominated by opiate dependency.

Here are just a few of the statistics that have been made public regarding opiate addiction in the United States.

•Just under 10 percent of the US population abuses opiates at some point in their lifetime, including street opiates such as heroin and prescription opiates like Vicodin and Oxycontin.

•In 1999 alone, the Drug Abuse Warning Network found that two opiates—heroin and morphine—were related to over half of accidental drug fatalities in the United States.

•As of 1998, the average age of first-time heroin users was just over 21 years old.

•On average, heroin users have a $150 to $200 per day drug addiction.

•In 2007, nearly two and a half million Americans had abused prescription pain killers to get high.

•Ten percent of high school seniors took Vicodin without a doctor’s prescription, according to a 2008 research study.
