Where does your state rank for healthiest in 2014

Annual Reports page

Use your mouse to “hover” over each state for their ranking.

Hawaii ranks number one as the healthiest state.
Vermont ranks number two as the healthiest state
Florida ranks number thirty two as the healthiest state

Obviously, Vermont has no smokestack industry, thus very little pollution.
Many things are taken into consideration when coming to these 2014 statistics for year just ending.

"Vermont is a beautiful and generally rural state, but the landscape is littered with a
toxic legacy. There are over 3000 identified hazardous waste sites and 1500 MTBE
(gasoline additive) sites that threaten groundwater. Strip mining across the state has
decimated landscapes and has contaminated water supplies. State testing has revealed that
at least 10% of wells that were sampled near agricultural areas are contaminated with
pesticides. Frog deformity rates of up to 25% have been found in rivers leading into Lake
Champlain, and this is disturbing because frogs are known to serve as an indicator
species reflecting the health of environment. Mercury pollution has lead to advisories for
limiting fish consumption in all of the lakes, rivers, and stream in Vermont. In 2001,
industries released 363,002 pounds of toxins in the state....."

Vermont also ranks number one in underage alcohol consumption and leads the nation in binge drinking among adults.

Vermont is 13th in cigarette smoking. CDC - Tobacco Control State Highlights 2010 - Vermont - Smoking & Tobacco Use

Although it ranks eight lowest in obesity the trend is up. 24.7% recently versus 10.7 % in 1990. http://stateofobesity.org/states/vt/

Too, Vermont is notoriously running in first place for illicit drug use. http://www.businessinsider.com/why-v...roblem-2013-10

How healthy is that?

It would appear that this is another attempt at slamming Florida from someone who doesn't even want to live here. Why start up again???

Vermont is also a very, very, cold state with a poor economy. Taxation is very high and energy costs are in the stratosphere. I lived there for ten years so I am very familiar with the state. It is a very pretty state, but 80% of the weather is awful. Comparing an entire state like New York, Texas, or Florida to a little inconsequential state like Vermont is ridiculous. Let's face it, if we extrapolated the 105,000 people who live in The Villages out of Florida I am sure we would see an interesting change in statistics. In addition, all of Vermont is only equal to six times the population of The Villages.

Comparing a 95% white Vermont population to other large states is not useful. It is like comparing Denmark's 5.6 million people to Florida's 19.5 million, or the more ridiculous comparison of Denmark versus the USA's 319 million.

Long live beautiful Florida with beaches, palm trees, warmth, lakes, rivers,The Villages, Disneyworld and everything else we all love. I think I will join a Vermont forum and start posting about how awful their state is and how great we have it, but then that would be a really odd thing to do. But why??? I think I know now, it is January in Vermont, it is 10 degrees below zero, there is 3 feet of snow on the ground, and you are trapped in a dark house at the end of the road. You know that winter is going to go on for months and months and the thought that there are a 105,000 people loving the lifestyle in Florida is too much to take. My advice is to run, don't walk, to the nearest airport and leave Vermont for good and move to a better climate, maybe some place like.... Florida! There must be some reason we northerners keep coming down here in droves.

I wonder why we keep getting threads started about "wonderful" Vermont.
Anyone thinking of packing up and moving there? :cold:
