The Villages does not own the polo field????

A friend of mine, who does not live in the Villages, told me that he plays cricket at the Polo field. I asked how he could do that being that he is not a resident. He said, "the polo field is not owned by the Villages."

Is that true? Not that it means anything special except that it surprises me.

It seems like most of the polo players are also not Village residents. Guess that would mean either is non-Village property (the developer could own it under a different corporate entity), Village property exempt from TV rules in general or another case of the developer changing rules when convenient.

Stupid question -- does it matter?

I think you have to keep in mind what Mark Morse pointed out at his VHA presentation, the Developer owns some things like the Championship Golf Courses and The VCCDD and SLVCCD own things that he has sold to us. These are the things that are being paid for via the bond you inherit when you buy and what a portion of your amenities is used for, to pay off the bond interest.

So, I am of the opinion that The Developer owns The Polo Fields and can use it for whatever he wants. That included a College Football Game played on it in the past and of course, for polo matches.

According ot the Sumter County Board of County Commissioners web site, the polo fields are owned by The Villages of Lake Sumter.

As I pointed out in my post, very clearly, I was just curious.

Is this really the most important thing in your life? Relax and just enjoy TV's.

Oh c'mon BS, we've got to "discuss" something and this beat arguing over politics, buffalo, or poker playing quarter horses. I'm getting all the polo players from my village together and we're picketing the the polo fields. We're expecting a big turnout and invite players from other villages to join us this Saturday or Monday or whenever. Our main problem is that we're not sure what the :edit: the issue is so we don't know what to put on our signs.

:welcome: :agree: lovehorse crap :hot: :dontknow:

Where in my post did I say this was the most important thing in my life? Where in my post did I say I was not relaxing? Where in my post did I say I was not enjoying the villages.

All I did was ask a question out of curiosity. When people retire, are they suppose to give up every social responsibility including curiosity about their surroundings. I'm sorry, I can't do that.

You're right TH. I guess I was anticipating this thread turning into a debate of who should and shouldn't be allowed to use the Polo Fields. I apologize.

Re: The Villages does not own the polo field????

Actually Jan, I thought it was an interesting topic. My facetious comments *** above aside, there are so many intricacies involved in the organization and operation of TV that it is nigh on impossible to keep all the facts straight. Yes, we (the owners of homes in TV) own so much of the recreation facilities and common area but as we all know, that isn't everything. We think we have it straight, but it's still confusing as can be to a lot of folks as to what fee go to whom and pays for what, for example. It gets a bit old reexplaining the bond system every couple weeks, but I can definitely understand the confusion so many have. It's refreshing to get a new topic that leads to potentially deeper discussion.

*** When people look at a situation like the one you raised and immediately start attacking the developer and bemoaning their projected loss of something they think they have a right to simply because it was here, I have an unfortunate habit of carrying their complaints to the extreme. Sorry.

The developer keeps things that generate money for him now and in the future
