New AUMF on ISIL

"President Barack Obama will soon give Congress his proposal for a new authorization for the use of military force against Islamic State fighters, and it will place strict limits on the types of U.S. ground forces that can be deployed, according to congressional sources.

Almost six months after the president began using force against the Islamic State advance in Iraq and then in Syria, the White House is ready to ask Congress for formal permission to continue the effort. Until now, the administration has maintained it has enough authority to wage war through the 2001 AUMF on al-Qaeda, the 2002 AUMF regarding Iraq and Article II of the Constitution. But under pressure from Capitol Hill, the White House has now completed the text of a new authorization and could send it to lawmakers as early as Wednesday. "

In reading and this link is a writers point of view of how the legislation will look, the one, and maybe only one problem I see is the date. It does not expire until 2018, but I assume a new President could come to Congress before that date if needed in his/her opinion.

Hopefully there will be a section in there on how this action will be paid for. If it requires new taxes, so be it. The costs can't be just added to the trillions of dollars the Iraq and Afghanistan wars have cost.

And who is going to fight the war? Could the draft be reinstated?

I always wonder why people become government spending conscious when referring to wars. They know how much was spent on each war and wonder who is going to pay for the current proposal.

Now if we could get the same attention on the other trillions and trillions that are being squandered every day we might make some progress on that unfamiliar subject called a budget and the concept of not spending what you don't have.

C'mon turn the page there really is more spending that the wars....really....much more!

Thank you - I never looked at it that way, but you are absolutely right.

This issue is so critical, and I am looking forward to the debate.
