Public golf courses

Have been here the last 3 weeks and played several of the public courses.
Eagle Ridge, Continental and the links of Spruce Creek all have the same attitude (lets overcharge the snowbirds since they're here) and high prices ($36 plus/round) for courses in fair shape. These courses are not worth the drive or the attitudes they display to cash paying customers! The Villages' championship courses, with a priority (6 month) are looking better all the time.

You couldn't be more wrong. That's about the price you pay in TV with a priority membership. Comparable price in TV at this time of year is the Resident Rate which is about $10 higher than the "Public" Courses you mention. After you've been here more than 3 weeks you might come to understand that all courses have high season rates from October through April.

In the past month we have played Eagle Ridge for twenty, Spruce Creek for twenty four, Harbour Hills for thirty and Ocala National for twenty six. For winter conditions they are all in good shape. We are snowbirds and play off site every week. Suggest you look for deals, they are on line or in the paper daily.

We play The Lakes a fair amount. It is an old course right behind the historic part of the Villages. It is challenging but only has one par five. We played there this week at 1.45 for 12.85 including golf car. It is a fun course to play. It has several tough holes.

Many courses off campus have better rates or packages than TV even with priority. In fact those purchasing priority need to consider the number of times they play per month, the number of people in their group with priority and the tee times they select. I had priority for six years and in my view it would have been a better investment to have used that money to pay for golf outside TV so do the math

Each person should decide what is correct for them. Many courses outside the villages are cheaper. Some are much more. It depends on how well they are maintained. The better they are maintained the higher the cost. Of course there are always ones that are considered what I call the T.V quality for the guys that we watch on T.V. They are really expensive. As for those who think the Villages is high priced while the Snow birds are here. They are correct it is higher. Overall a golf course is there to make money, not just give us a game of golf. Like anything else if you feel the price is too high. Don't spend your money there.
I played at Disney. The price without a discount is $180. I have a season pass so the price was $90.00 each. Still much higher then most places I like to play at. My choice to play there.

That was going to be my first reply but then I considered the lack to ocean breeze.

Everyone has their own idea about what makes a good golf course, challenging
may be one of them!:MOJE_whot:

If you check the average cost of golf in many areas of Florida, generally you will find the cost of golf in the area of The Villages will be cheaper. Of course, the green fees will vary from course to course. As others have posted, look for "deals" as they are in the newspapers almost everyday. The Daily Commercial has the area golf prices (I believe) on Thurday's.

For certain, if you lived in South Florida, Naples/Fort Meyers or many others places in The Sunshine State you would "love" the cost of golf around this area.
