Hanging A Television on Concrete Block Walls

I am considering hanging an LCD television on the wall of my CBS home. There is drywall on the inside. Does anyone know how difficult it is? Are there wood studs? Of furring strips? Or metal studs?
Has anyone hung a television on their Villages CBS house?
It's fairly easy with wood studded walls - 4" lag bolts into the studs. I'm just not sure how to deal with what ever is behind my drywall.
Thanks

Her is what I would do.
Call Home Warranty and they should be able to tell you the type of construction
Go to Home Depot, Lowes, Ace or any reputable hardware and tell them all about it and they will point you to the hardware you need and how to use it.
You will probably find your inside walls are metal studs so you will have to locate them and use appropriate screws.Hope this helps.

You raise a good question for I also am not used to metal studs or even concrete block walls. When it comes time for me to hang something like a TV, on a wall I will probably get help from someone who knows what they are doing rather than trying to save a dollar and risk having my LCD/Plasma all over the hard tile floor!!! If it falls it will not be a soft landing.

IF I thought I got good guidance from someone and had morale support (and an extra set of hands) from other than my wife, I may atempt to hang up to a 32in screen, but 42in and higher start to get heavy.

Re: Hanging A Television on Concrete Block Walls

I've hung 2 32" and a 52" and was astounded at how simple it was on a drywall / wood stud wall. I thought it would be particularly hard. But all 3 televisions fit the mounting plates, and the mounting plates were bolted in with huge lag bolts.
The kit for the mounts came with mounts for both wood and concrete. I'd have no trouble mounting directly on concrete, but the issue of either metal studs or the furring strip with a gap between the sheet rock and the concrete block baffles me some.
So I will follow the advice above and check with a pro!
Thanks,
Steve

WOW!! You hung a 52" on drywall...I would think the weight would be a big factor. I am looking at that size and plan to let it sit on a console of some type.

There are 4" lag bolts in the 2x4 studs holding the mount to the wall. The mount is rated up to 175 pounds, and I think the 52" weighs 80 or so. It's not going any where.

Steve, I have been doing handyman work inFla for 15 years. I have not found any 2x4 studs in any relatively new buildings, that are cement. Use a small ice pick and go through the drywall to see how much space is between the drywall and the concrete. Get tapcons from Home depot/ Lowes. The come in 1/4 and 3/16 in various lengths. You will need a specific size masonry drill for the tapcons. They are the best thing I have found to mount on cement. I have about 10 different sizes in my truck at all times. Good luck. Still in West Palm beach or would offer to help.Larry

Thanks, great insight! I'll give it a try.

Another discovery I made was the metal studs in the interior walls are 24" centers, rather than the standard 16".
