Packrat Pod - Courtyard Villa is there room
 

Hello All,
I have posed this question to my landlady/landlord who live in the Villages, but he travels for work internationally and she donates her time at the hospital, therefore they may not be available to answer this. I need a quick response so I can make alternate plans if need be. We are moving in Friday, March 20th across from Brownwood in the newly built Courtyard Villas. I think the village is Antrim Dells.

I ordered a Packrate Pod 16X12 ft. and last night I woke up in a sweat realizing that it is quite possible that there is not enough room in our Courtyard Villa driveway to allow for that size. :eek: As you know the driveways are shared with the neighbor next door and you have to respect their driveway space. I never even thought of measuring the last time I was there the length or the width. Has anyone used a pod of that size to put in the driveway at a Courtyard Villa? The truck itself needs a length of 50' to place the pod down and not sure if there is that much clearance from the top of the driveway to the house across the street.

See what happens when you try to save a buck... should have hired a moving truck.

Anyone have experience with this?

We live in a courtyard villa. I don't know what you mean about shared driveways, the neighbors need to access to their side patio area but not your driveway. That said, we used pods to move and had 2 approximately 8x8 pods in our driveway at once. Hope this helps!

I can't remember exactly but I don't really mean shared driveways but I think the house to the left of us is a corner lot, and their garage faces our garage so the driveways I 'think' butt up to each other. I'm almost thinking we should have gotten two 8 X 8s as well.

I might see what it will take to swap out.

I live in a courtyard villa- had no problem with the pod in the driveway. We also used PACKRAT.

OP's pod is 16X12. Do you know the size yours was??

Wasn't the smallest. Was next size up- maybe 16 ft? We were to get the smaller one but they didn't have one available to deliver. We received the next size up without additional charge. We do have a 2 car garage, but think it would be fine in single garage driveway. We stored it in their faciliity in Orlando when we first arrived. We were really pleased with Packrat. They kept us informed throughout the process. They always arrived and delivered as promised.

OP, are you sure of the size, 12 ft is too wide for normal streets or trucks, and would require a wide load permit. I am guessing it is 16ft by 8ft wide, and 8ft height?

Geeshe you are right it is those dimensions that you posted, 16 X 8 X 8. The truck needs 51 ft in length and 12 ft wide to place the pod in the driveway, as it acts as a fork lift pushing out from the back to place the pod down.

Thanks for correcting me. I just started a new job (work from home), moving, husband threw his back out so tending to that, moving and selling a car all at the same time - stressed to say the least. Time for :wine:

In that case you will be fine as far as putting the pod in your driveway. I had that size pod placed in my CYV driveway. I didn't use Packrat, I used PODs,. The delivery truck was pulled up in front of the house and then the off-loading equipment was able to manuever the pod onto the driveway. If the Packrat delivery method is the same, they will have no problem.

P.s. Take a breath, try not to stress. I know it's hard, but we've all been there. It's a major life event, but well worth it.

First, WELCOME TO THE VILLAGES, now that you have the correct dimensions, I suspect from previous comments that you will be OK. I will leave it to others with first hand experience to confirm. Sorry to hear about husband, there are some people that you can hire in TV to help you unload, in case Hubby is not back in shape. I have seen previous threads about help moving or unloading furniture.

Search the web for "etrakit sumtercountyfl" and you will find a web site that contains all the dimensioned plans for your home including lot it occupies. You can use that to find out how much space you have. Click on properties then select search by address, contains then fill in your street name and you will see a list of all the houses on that street. It will take some poking around on all the info there but you site and house places are there.
