Pizza

Which pizza establishments are the best in The Villages area.

dbussone 03-23-2015 02:41 PM

I like NYPD off CR466

baustgen 03-23-2015 02:42 PM

I vote for Stavros. We are from Chicago.

villagetinker 03-23-2015 02:44 PM

We like Hungry Howie's on RT 301, just north of RT 44 and RT 301.

ugotme 03-23-2015 03:20 PM

Basically there are none - in my opinion.

So far the best I have tasted is from The Chef's of Napoli on rte. 301 in Wildwood.

jnieman 03-23-2015 03:27 PM

The best with best price is the Little Ceasar's in Fruitland Park. Next to the post office. You can get a large, two topping pizza for $8.50 and it is really good!

Is there any place that makes a NYC or NJ pizza with an ultral thin slice that sags & you have to flip the end after you fold it to eat it ?

Mikiem 03-23-2015 06:09 PM

No. When they try to make a thin crust here it turns into a cracker. I did not know pizza could be so bad till I moved to Florida.

Jgg7933 03-23-2015 10:05 PM

There was a poll taken on The Best Pizza in and around The Villages several months back and Flippers won that poll and I agree with that. I also am originally from New York and left there 35 years ago. The wife and I also miss NY pizza but Flippers is the best I have had down here (in the south for the past 35 years). They use great cheese (that strings when you bite it) and awesome ingredients as well and its baked in a fire brick oven! Try Flippers if you miss NY style Pizza!

Chatbrat 03-25-2015 04:54 PM

If its crispy its not NY or NJ style, & put bang for the buck out what's the best- period- its my choice on how I want to spend $$$--I'm too old to worry about saving $$$--no wallets in coffins--enjoy it if you can afford it !!!

kstew43 03-25-2015 05:15 PM

if you want new england style pizza.....try bellview pizza. directly on 27 going north on the left side in the heart of bellview. they have been doing business since when I lived in Ocala in 1975 and still going. they know what a grinder is and how to make a new york pizza. a little drive but well worth the trip.

TomOB 03-25-2015 08:08 PM

If you go to Bellview Pizza bring cash. They don't take cards.

hulahips 03-25-2015 08:51 PM

Still searching but NYPD has my vote so far

Skip2MySue 03-25-2015 08:56 PM

We have always enjoyed Flippers and they also make a great chopped salad and bread sticks to die for.
Skip 2

kellyjam 03-26-2015 08:54 AM

Another vote for NYPD. Thin, more cheese than sauce, and when you fold it the olive oil drips onto the plate.

Sandtrap328 03-26-2015 01:45 PM

Best pizza in the area is the pizza at Mallory Hill Country Club.

Absolute worst is Hungry Howie's in Wildwood.

NYPD pizza is down far on the list. It is sopping wet with grease.

The best for your health or the best tasting?

bluedog103 03-26-2015 08:59 PM

Little Joey's is pretty good as is NYPD. Belleview Pizza is ok, nothing more. Hungry Howie's is joke. I did find one that is every bit as good as anything in Brooklyn. I'll try it a time or two more to check for consistency before i recommend them. So far this is excellent pizza.

LndLocked 03-26-2015 10:25 PM

Without question the best Pizza in the "area" is Blue Highway. You have to go to Ocala (or Micanopy or G-ville) .... but it is hands down the best.

lbertoni 03-26-2015 10:36 PM

Being a Jersey Girl, I an particular about good pizza. Bravo's in Sumter Landing has a decent slice hot out of the oven. Try it.

TomOB 03-27-2015 08:13 AM

Blue Highway and Brooklyn's Backyard in Ocala are very good.

DeanFL 03-30-2015 07:38 AM

Nice surprise. Went to Mallory Hill CC Sat night with friends. Looked thru menu during the 30 min wait. I finally decided on a pizza - they have an authentic brick pizza oven near the front and saw at least 8 people come in and walk out with pizza boxes -some had 5-, take out.
Asked the server how the Philly Cheesesteak pizza was, 'course he said great. They had about 10 pizza selections or build-your-own. Was hesitant to try the Philly as it had Alfredo sauce, not marinara. I felt bold...

Entrees and my pizza came 15 min later. The pizza was OMG good. So flavorful yummo with that really nice browned woodoven crust. Brought 1/2 home and had for lunch yesterday.

Three Thumbs up for MHCC pizza - BTW it was about $10. Will go again. Soon.

One of their daily lunch specials is three slices of cheese pizza, soup or salad, and soft drink/iced tea for $8. Very good.

Pizza

My two favorites are Flippers at SS and NYPD on 466. Different types of pizza but I really like both.

I took your suggestion and tried it and it was fabulous. Everyone at my table loved it. I went home hungry. They ate it all,,but will order it again just for me (I hope).

Flippers has real high quality pizza. Most of the other joints use cheap cheese, sauce out of a gallon can and the cheapest ingredients. Flippers is far above the others and that's why they always win the polls for best Pizza in all of Central Florida.

tomwed 04-04-2015 10:13 PM

I also vote for The Blue Door in Ocala. We were in the art museum and asked staff members where to go. That's how we found it. I liked the garlic flat bread, that tastes like pizza to me at Flippers. I forget what they call it.

I was buying the garlic flat bread, in the pizza freezer at Aldi's when it was available. At home I would cook it with all kinds of toppings and was very happy. I suppose it was a bit greasy and garlicky but I could sop up the oil with a paper towel and the more garlic the better for me.

Jgg7933 04-04-2015 10:49 PM

Yes. We are from NY and find Flippers in Spanish Springs the closest to NY pizza you will find down here. We have taken many people there as well and they have ALL said it is the best pizza they have had down here. Great Pizza!

What polls would that be?
