Bad Eyesight Low Vision

I am single and am thinking about possibly moving to The Villages. I would be living by myself. I have poor vision, my sight is somewhere around 20/100 with full 180° of peripheral vision. I was wondering if The Villages would be right for me? Is it easy to get around? Are there taxi services and ride services such as Uber available in The Villages? Are there restrictions on the use of golf carts? Is there anyone living alone in the villages with poor vision?

I believe there is only one way for you to find out if you could live here with your declining eyesight and that, of course, is to rent for a couple of months. If you could find a summer rental with a golf cart and situated a short distance from one of the shopping centers I think you would be able to tell whether you could manage here.

We do have two reliable taxi services that I know of, maybe more. I am aware of A1 Taxi and the Village Airport Van now has a Taxi service. We also have a company called The Village Transportation and they probably have a taxi service too. There is a local bus which I have seen outside Publix, I believe it is called Sumter Transit. If you did a search for Sumter Transit, The Villages, I am sure you could get more information on their routes.

Personally, I cannot think of a better place for someone with your disability to live. I am not aware of one, but there is probably a club geared specifically to your needs where you could meet and talk with people who are dealing with your problem.

Whatever you choose to do and to live, I wish you luck. My sister is legally blind and I am well aware of the debilitating problems connected with declining sight.

I should have done some research before submitting this thread. But, anyway, this is information on the Lions Club here in The Villages, they are a very active group. This website http://www.e-clubhouse.org/sites/lak...l/projects.php should give you a number or email address and maybe you could direct your question to them.

My wife had 20/100 and 20/70. She went to St Luke's eye center, and now has 20/20 in both eyes. You might want to check them out.

Thank you BohnBev for the suggestion. My eye sight condition is something I was born with. It is a genetic condition that is not correctable. Your suggestion may be helpful to others though.
