What exactly does the villages hospital treat?
 

twice I have had doctors wanting to send me there but because I had a heart transplant 10 years ago they, the hospital, decided both times that my case was 'too complicated' (their hospitalists words)and asked that I go to Shands instead. Neither time was my condition threatening, once was to just get IV fluids. So I ask you, would you have confidence in TV hospital? I have absolutely none and will not use them ever.

I would rather them err on the side of caution, instead of marching ahead. Why take a chance on something going wrong with getting simple IV fluids with a person who had a heart transplant. I believe it was a wise and prudent decision and I would thank them for it.

Too many times, hospitals want to be a one-stop-shop.

I would be glad they told me this.

It's like the guy in the old Aamco Transmission commercials, "I always wanted to work on a trans-mishion.

You should know by now Looney, that you have a complicated case and you have experts who know how to handle it. You have to be on certain levels of non-rejection drugs and it requires a high level of expertise.

So it is with our daughter and she sees the cardiologists at Cincinnati Childrens who did the plumbing forty years ago. They have an adult clinic just for that purpose. Even really smart cardiologists don't handle certain unusual things on a day to day basis.

I think they directed you wisely. Glad you have a new ticker and glad you are here with us. Stay well.

OP, you usually get pretty good advise from TOTV. You might want to revisit going to Shands. From our place only an hour and 15 minutes----depends where you live in TV. Good health and good luck.

I would have thanked them for their good (honest and candid)recommendation. Community hospitals often have self imposed care options when the do not have the appropriate staff and systems. This same advice would have been given in hundreds of "Community Hospitals" ---Unfair Critism!!!

I am 10 yrs out now, had full approval from the transplant clinic at Sands, in fact they were the ones that recommended TV hospital for this simple treatment.
believe me I fully understand the many problems associated with my transplant.

The hospitalists at TVRH gave good advice. If complications had arisen, they do not have teams of residents and cardiac subspecialists in training by the dozens, on duty round the clock to respond and work on just you for hours, as the university-research hospitals do.

And if they had treated you and you got some kind of sepsis or heart-lung major problem that landed you in intensive care for a month, too unstable to transfer elsewhere, you'd later be on here saying they should have referred you to Shands or Mayo, and asking about malpractice lawyers.
