How much does your Dentist charge?
 

My husband and I just got back from the Dentist and we have sticker shock!! We were curious to see what other people are being charged. We were quoted a one surface resin filling $166, a 2 surface $195. A procelain crown fused to high noble metal $925.00.

My dentist charges 1100$ for a crown fillings about the same as your dentist. I just hope the work we are receiving we really need. Have most of my teeth all of a sudden I need a cap every time I go back to the dentist.

In my experience one gets what one pays for. Remember, half of the dentists graduated in the bottom halves of their classes.

A couple of years ago my gardner, who is now is a US citizen but is from Mexico, asked me what I had paid for a crown i had just had done because he needed two done. I told him how much but asked him why he did not have them done for far less on one of his trips back to Mexico. He said because he could not trust their work or that they would use proper materials (such as real gold). He would rather pay more in the US and get the job done right.

That seems to be the going rate. Sounds about what I paid for a root canal, temporary and porcelian crown fuse noble metal. There is always the alternative of a bottle of whiskey and pliers.:throwtomatoes:

If you want to save money you need to tell the dentist that your priority is function.
Too many dentists recommend crowns when a perfectly good filling will do the job.
I put my guy on notice at the first visit here 11 years ago when he started beating the drum about caps, crowns, color matching, etc.
Costs me $195 once a year for cleaning and annual checkup.

Back when I grew up and probably many others on this site, fillings were the normal. Now all they know is root canals and crowns.

I paid $1300 for a root canal. Was told I had 3 roots, and while closing it up, she said she found a 4th.

I know some people who have had the old fillingsyou removed and redone with an epoxy filling because supposedly the old fillings had mercury in them. If I have a tooth that can be saved than be extracted I'd rather have a root canal. I used to hear nothing but horror stories about root canals. I recently had one done and it was an absolutely painless procedure. It was time consuming.

I guess, ever since fluoride, many peoples teeth, do not need fillings etc. Now they are more into crowns, root canals, caps, and implants. The biggest expense I see, is having implants. This can get real costly. I'm looking for the old time dentist, that used to be able to put you back together (like Humpty Dumpty) without implants!! LOL
