securing quad sliding glass doors
 

Anyone have any advice for securing the quad sliding glass doors? I have glass break monitors but, the doors can be bumped and lifted out of the track fairly easy. Dowels at the base of the doors will not work as the base tracks are on the outside. Thanks for your help.

My sliding glass doors allow for dowels which I painted and use to prevent the sliding of the door. My sliding glass doors had tabs installed at the top of the door and the sides that prevent the door from being lifted up and out. Clearly there are so many ways someone can enter if determined but at least we can frustrate their efforts. I also made sure my bolts locks extended one inch into the casing.

We had the same issue. Here's what we used to solve it:

Prevents/hinders sliders being lifted out or opened with a pry bar.
I think it was around $30.00

I installed short pieces of aluminum channel on Velcro strips at the top of the sliders, used 8 pieces for the 4 sliders, and the safe-slider lock kit. I had previously posted an instruction with photos, last time was in the do it your self section.
There are several alternate methods to secure the sliders from being lifted out. I have received the following:
install screws in the top and back them off to block lifting out the sliders
Install a piece of wood, dowel or flat on the top of the slider to stop the sliders from being lifted.

you can put a small screw halfway up into the top of the each door track.
The door will slide, but can't be lifted up. I got that suggestion from another thread here and it works great.

Uploaded photo of steel sliding door u hooks...place 3/4 way up from your door. Every sliding panel needs one. Your locksmith installs them usually for the price of the lock..approx $25 each. Doors then cannot be shimmied, lifted or moved. One more help but if they really want to break in, they will find a way. A big dog with good instincts is the best deterrent.
