Printer Keeps Saying Off Line

When I go to print something from my laptop, my printer says it's offline. Visually check printer & it says connected. Have removed & reinstalled in laptop with same results. Looked up status & checked and unchecked off line box....same results. We've used this printer for 2 years & it's always been problematic but never this long.... Tried from different laptops & IPad that used to work....nuttin... HP5500 series...... HELP!!

I had the same issues with my HP. Gave up and bought an Epson all-in-one 2540 for $89 and never have any issues. iPad or Laptop all work great. I no longer buy HP products at all. HP= Help Please

I've had a similar problem (on a different brand of printer). What I needed to do was to make sure that I had chosen the right designation for the printer. The printer indicated in the little box on the upper left of the screen when I went to "print" was Canon MX870 series Printer....but, what I had to designate, from the selections available in that box was Canon MX870 series Printer XPS. You may have something similar going on.

I would start by reinstalling the driver. Whenever I have printer issues that is the first thing I do. It will probably install a new one and when you look at the list you will have two (one will say copy). When you print select the one that says copy of. I recently had issues and this fixed mine. Hope this helps.

Try disconnecting the printer plug and reattach after 30 seconds.

I've had this problem many times too. Sometimes clicking on the wifi symbol in the toolbar and disconnecting then reconnecting the network helps. If that doesn't work, I go to the printers setup page, and re-establish the network settings by entering the network password.

Did you go to youtube.com and search for "troubleshooting offline printer"? I did and there is a lot of videos on that subject. That's how a lot of us fix things we forgot how to fix.

One other thing you might want to try is unplug the printer and turn off your computer then reboot your wireless router by unplugging it. That might reset everything. Worth a try.

pull up the start menu and go to devices and printers. Right click on the printer, and click "troubleshoot" Follow onscreen prompts. Windows can probably reset or change settings that could be causing the issue.
