Has anyone had a/c installed in the garage?

Call Absolute Air--they install the Mitsubishi units

you can get a free standing unit & install the vent thru the window or wall with something that looks like a dryer vent

Hearsay because they are allowed on enclosed lanai's

That one is AC only, if I was going to do it I would get one with heat also, same cost of labor.

Since it's a heap pump there may be a state rebate or tax incentive

If you search Utube, it can be installed by you if you're handy, just have an electrician do the wire.

It comes pre - charged, about a 4 hour job, I call it a 2 on a scale of 1-5 as easy.

There are a few mini splits on the market. Mitsubishi, Sanyo, Toshiba, and a Korean brand I can't recall right now.

My neighbor put a Mitsubishi in the garage a couple of years ago, when he had a room addition added. He now has 3air conditioners

I used to work on them and found them to be no different than larger split systems. If they weren't sized, installed, or serviced properly to begin with they can be a future nightmare for the home owner and service people.

Here is an earlier thread on this subject. The OP want to install a split unit but was told there could be tax issues about converting the garage to a living area vs non-living area. Regardless, I think the consensuses was that the split units are allowed. I suggest doing some additional checking before investing in a unit....

Regulation code change for AC for Lanai & Garage????

As I recall, there was an advertising campaign by a local vendor that indicated there was a change in the FL state laws regarding the installation of A/C in enclosed lanais (and I would assume garage), with the requirement that these areas be class 4 or 5 (?) living space. This caused several other requirements to kick in, like additional electrical receptacles, insulation(?), etc.
So as the previous poster mentions, go to Sumter County (or Lake or Marion), and ask, then you can make an educated decision.
