Coming to a Wal-mart near you.

I love the way it was handled in a few stores in my area of California. The checker would ring up the first ten items on the conveyor. The rest were put back in the customer's cart and the dolt who couldn't count was told nicely to get to the end of the line to purchase the rest. It was such a relief when this policy was implemented!

I have mixed feelings about this. Yes, I hate it when someone with 20 items gets in the 10 or less line in front of me.

On the other hand, I've been in stores with one more item than the rule where there is a line at the regular registers and no one in the express lane. I usually go over and tel the cashier that I have eleven items and ask if it's OK. I've never been turned down, but I'm always concerned that someone in a hurry is going to come up behind me and not be happy.

I guess it's all about common sense. Getting in the 15 or less line with seventeen items when there is a line at that register should definitely be a no no. But, no one in line and one or two items over.....well...

Make all the cashiers obsessive-complusives like Adrian Monk. For those not familiar with the character Adrian Monk, he would count every item and make sure the rules were enforced. What happens though with 4 cartons of soda on sale for 4 for the price of 3? BOGO sales? Monk would be in a pickle.

Monk would not survive that scenario! He'd have to be carted off and put on meds.

I only have two hands so I'm just gonna have to take off one shoe so I can count. That's gonna slow down the line.

Monk was one of my favorite shows. I have a Monk bobble-head.

Like the Seinfeld joke:

Why is it that some people can't count to ten, but can count their $48 in change, if their bill is $52, and they gave the cashier a $100 bill?

I would love to see a cashier send someone to the back of the line with more than 10 items in their cart. :D

How rude and inconsiderate of others. I am talking about people who think nothing in getting into the ten items or less, with 25 or more items in their cart!!

I was informed by a manager, "well there was no one in that line!!! If I was his boss, I would have had a talk to him about customer service.
