Those unwanted phone calls....what to do about them
We've signed up for the "do not call list" BUT that said, today we've had maybe a dozen calls from the same 818 number (says it's from California) but we screen our calls so don't answer. We do have a land-line and don't want to get rid of it.
I've probably seen somewhere though I don't remember where, that there may be a way to block these calls. Is anyone else having the same issue. A foreign sounding voice comes onto our machine saying my name, like they're calling out to me. This is somewhat disconcerting to say the least...and irritating too. |

OH Yes

Dial *60 press "talk" and follow the prompts. This will block the call on a land line. I'm not sure if it works on a cell phone.

4 Ways to Block a Call - wikiHow HOWEVER, your provider may charge for this service. It is best to check. "Call your telephone service provider. Ask a customer service representative whether call blocking is an available feature. If call blocking is available, request that it be activated. There may be a monthly fee for using the call blocking feature." |
I hate those phishing calls too. They try their best to get personal info if you answer their calls. Don't answer calls from numbers you don't know.

Buy the Panasonic phone that blocks up to 250 numbers. Helps a lot.

We now have VoIP, via talk, and go online and click block this number. It also gives us lots of options and extras we cannot get elsewhere. Works great and is cheap.

We have Comcast and if a certain caller won't stop calling, I do the *60. I was given a booklet by Comcast when they did my installation of my landline, TV, and internet and the instructions are in that booklet. There is no fee with my package and I never hear from that number again. You do have to be aware that they can use another number to call you when they realize they are blocked, but I haven't had that problem. Good luck.

anybody we know or do business with has our cell numbers, everyone else gets a fax tone on our landline. In 8 years not one salesperson has thought to send a fax....

If it is an Iphone go to recent calls, find the number, there is an I (for info) to the right of the number, click that, scroll down the list that comes up to "block number". They should not be able to call again.

If it is a recording, I hang up. If it is a human, I tell them I am putting in my hearing aid, lay the phone down and proceed with whatever I was doing when they called. After about five minutes, I hang up.

We bought a device called CPR CallBlocker. It sits on the desk by our phone and connects to the phone and phone line. Our house is so peaceful now. Hardly ever get one of those calls. Just recently got a call from California. I just entered the number and now no more calls from them and the other 39 solicitors that were bothering us. Just wish I had bought it years ago.

Generally we get very few calls on our land-line! We just wanted it...because! We have CenturyLink for our provider. I will try the *60 and see if it works for us. Otherwise I may do a "chat" with CenturyLink to find out what they can tell us. This call originates in CA...it began at 10 this morning. Yesterday when it started, it came through about every 5 to 10 minues. They will say "hello, hello?" about 4 times just long enough for it to register on our machine. I called the non-emergency Sumter Sheriff's office to see if they could give "words of wisdom" and the only thing they said is these calls will go for a day or two then quit. So thankful for "caller ID"!!!
I did the *60...but we unfortunately don't have the "call blocking" feature so as someone said we may have to talk with our provider to find out what we can do. |
