May 6, 2015 Daily Sun, Page 1A Comments

The following is from one of my posts yesterday:

An interesting project would be for someone (anyone) to post a new thread every morning about what they think about that day's page 1A (only) and then see what others think. The next day a new thread is started.

Here are my thoughts on today's page 1A:

I think the front page did a good job today at providing some news. A current political piece along with news of a new principal at VHS as well as 2 short lead in pieces about Baltimore Police and Starfish seemed appropriate. I found the "That's Amazing" story to be best on the page. The major story above the fold about National Nurses Day seemed somewhat misplaced, since I don't think it was news. It probably belonged on the 1st page page of the Lifestyle section. Overall, I thought today's front page was good.

The piece about nurses is a news story for a hometown paper--and thank God we have nurses--and large papers because it is National Nurses Day and we would be in deep trouble without them locally and nationally. The new principal is local, but educational concerns are national, so it can go either way. I want to meet the man discussed in the "That's Amazing" but only if he is in a good mood.

I have been thinking about getting the paper, but for the little bit that I'd be interested in doesn't seem like it would be worth it. I know, it's only $1.20 a week. It's not that but it would just a lot more crap hanging around the house that we'd be throwing away twice a week.

I wish they'd offer the whole paper online for a fee. Imagine how much paper could be saved if half of the people got it online.

I read a bunch of online newspapers, but don't pay for any. However I get the DS in hard copy. There's just something about holding a newspaper in your hands.

And there is a DS app you can download. It does not have all the content.

Apparently an interesting project to only one poster and a few others that like talking about other things...

Love getting up in the morning, and trotting out to driveway to pick up paper :)

Would you pay $1.20 for an online version if you could print the coupons?
At less than 20 cents a day the coupons more than pay for the paper.

Dear New York Guy:

I liked your idea and for those posters who purchae and read the Daily Sun it would be enjoyable to hear their views.

One caveat it cannot be political because it will get booted off this thread.

Personal Best Regards:

To me, one of the pleasant surprises when I first came to TV was the daily paper. You can pay for a year for $62.00 and start and stop until the 52 weeks run out.. Compared to the local Cincinnati paper it is much better. The local paper has physically shrunk to almost 81/2 by 11 and can cost $300.00 per year. I read the Daily Sun online and enjoy keeping up with the current events in TV.

I'm sorry, but being retired I could care less about who the principal at VHS is. I know it is a local paper with local news but being a retirement community doesn't draw much interest in high school sports etc.

Actually there seem to be a lot of Buffalo boosters coming from the retirement community.
