Running in the Villages (for a Guest)
I'll be down next week helping my mom move into her new home in Hadley. Was wondering if there is a workout center (treadmill) near Hadley that is open to guests with proper guest ID card.
Or a running club perhaps? Didn't see one in her flyer, but I might have overlooked it. I am training for a race in Oct and don't want to lose any days. Thanks to anyone that can help! :) |
Re: Running in the Villages (for a Guest)
There are some treadmills in some regional rec centers. You have to pay but I am not sure of the day or week rates. Once you get here just go to any rec center and they will have all the info.

Re: Running in the Villages (for a Guest)
Colony Cottage Rec Center is immediately south of Hadley and has plenty of machines with a daily fee. Check with them for details.

And the multi modal paths (often mistakenly referred to as cart paths) are free with much better scenery.

Re: Running in the Villages (for a Guest)
I run every day I am there by mapping out a 2, 3 and 5 mile loop around my neighborhoods on the local streets. I usually run really early soon as its light enough so there is no traffic. Works fine and again its free.

Re: Running in the Villages (for a Guest)
L2 - That's a good idea. I only thought about the main roads but your idea is better. The neighborhood streets are much less crowded (almost deserted in April!). Do you have to contend with the rather large crown on the sides of the streets or can you pretty much stay towards the middle. I know the crowns in Florida seem much steeper.

Re: Running in the Villages (for a Guest)
Yes that can be an issue, but by picking the streets it was not to much of a problem. In VA I run in the Manassas battlefied so I am used to running on dirt, fields and wood chip trails. So the pavement is a little hard on the legs and knees. So when I get there more full time will try to find a park or somepleace where I can avoid pavement.

Re: Running in the Villages (for a Guest)
Thanks everyone for your help, ya'll are great. I might just take it the streets and see some scenery. I tend to wilt in very humid conditions, but this will be a good opportunity to see a lay of the land so to speak. Thanks for the insight on the golf cart/modal paths, I was wondering if they area open to foot traffic.

Re: Running in the Villages (for a Guest)
Just thought I'd update for anyone who is a wannabe and runs. TV is THE place for runners. I had my best run ever outdoors Sunday morning, and the scenery, sunrise and jogging paths were awesome. (the concrete they use had a little more spring than concrete at home) I went up from Hadley, past Odell, past Colony Cottage, etc. The humidity was not bad at all, much better than at home. Maybe because it's more inland? Anyway, For the first time in my running life, I was not afraid of traffic nor abductions, etc etc etc. Yep, I'm sold on TV for many reasons, being a runners paradise has to be in the top 3.

Cool, Roz!
You can run past my house and come on in for a cup of coffee when I get to Hadley. I wish I could run, never did have the enthusiasm even when I was younger. But I love to walk. Glad you had such a good time. Welcome to Hadley!! Kath |
Re: Running in the Villages (for a Guest)
Kath, consider me a walking partner this winter, I love to walk too! Now that Roz told us about some nice paths , we have no excuse now. Get those happy feet ready to cruise! LOL

YES!!!!
Ok, who wants to start a walking program this winter, let us here from you! |
Re: Running in the Villages (for a Guest)
Kathie and Nonie, that would awesome to start a Hadley walking/running group. :) Even though I don't live in TV (my mom does), I will be down a lot and would consider it a honor to walk with ya'll. I'm just a girl with too many layers who is struggling to get some of it off. If you saw me running up that last hill--I looked like death warmed over. Happy walking to you both!

Rozzie,
But you were RUNNING! I couldnt run anywhere much less up a hill if my life depended on it! In my opinion you are in great shape, just the word RUN makes me slither back inside my shell. Good for you! |
