Black Flakes in the Water

I read a closed topic about the black flakes in the water and was amazed that no one else posted the same problem. We have been here 3 years south of 466A and have the same black flake from the kitchen sink. We don't use a lot of water to cook with but when filling a boiler for spaghetti you will see the flake floating in the pot of water. Also we have a plastic rectangular shaped pitcher we fill with water each day to fill the coffee brewer. It is filled daily and immediately poured into the coffer brewer, but over a few months the inside of the pitcher will become coated with a black film. We are sure is from the black flakes in the water.

We had it too. Check the aerators on the bathroom sinks, ours would get black flakes built up on them. Put in one of Bob's whole house filters and no more black flakes or chlorine odor. It's worth the small investment

I have black flakes also. I called warranty and they told me it was the inside of the hose under the kitchen sink. I was told I was out of warranty but the manufacturer would replace the hose. The manufacturer mailed me new parts. I haven't called a plumber yet for the installation.

I'm the one that did the original topic. If you have a Delta faucet that is the source of the flakes. There is a black hose in the fixture that is the problem. Call Delta and they will replace it. The plumber I had out was clueless and two visits didn't do anything (except cost me money).

But just understand... the black flakes you are getting has almost certainly nothing to do with filtration.

Let the water run. This is a warm moist environment issue...mold grows where it is dark and moist and warm.

And take an old tooth brush to the aerators.

Very same thing here, black particles were coming from inside the flexible hose on the Delta kitchen faucet and out of warranty. Delta mailed us a new one and took care of the problem. Very easy to replace yourself if you are handy at all.

Delta sent us the wrong one part # RP44647 first but then sent us the correct one.
The RP44647 is free to anyone that can use it.

I have the same issue with a white plastic tea kettle. The black stuff is stubborn and doesn't respond to dishwashing liquid. What do you use to clean it?
