Vegans: Why are you not a carnivore or vegetarian

Why did you become a vegan? I realize that different people may have different reasons. And you might have more than one reason.

As I have said before I became a vegan after reading The China Study back in 2006, (a book by T. Colin Campbell). His extensive research, that he conducted himself over several decades convinced me that animal protein promotes cancer, and cancer is what I'm trying to avoid. Veganism, according to his research, also helps to prevent many other degenerative diseases.

I decided that as far as other regimens go, they may claim to be better tasting but how good will they be if you don't have good health? Good health is paramount. I can't imagine how I would enjoy life if I had cancer, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis or some other degenerative disease.

The OP has started a new thread specifically asking vegans on this board why they chose that lifestyle as opposed to being a carnivore or vegetarian. Please direct responses to that question. Off topic responses will be deleted.

At least he finally spelled vegetarian right. I became a vegan to keep my weight where I wanted it. It worked, but I got bored, so switched to vegetarian, or let's just say didn't eat meat. I never advertised it for 11 years. That finally got boring too. Now I have other ways to keep my weight where I want it.

I like to be happy so although I don't eat certain things very often (beef and pork) I also don't perserverate about food. My stomach can't handle certain foods since my gallbladder was removed last August...
