Renting out a house with a pool

I have been looking at houses for the last several years and now one has caught my eye...only problem(?) is that it has a pool.

Since I am still a few years out from retirement I always figured if I found a house I would rent it out till I reach frog status.

So what I would like to know is do people rent out their home if there is a pool.

Any liability issues to overcome?

Do house watchers take these properties since I am up her in MA?

Thanks for any insights.

When you rent your home you need special homeowner's insurance for a rented home. The insurance agent will probably ask you if there is a pool. I would think they would be able to answer your question about coverage for a pool.

I never had a problem renting mine out. Insurance company knew I had a pool, it was no problem.
I was very careful about who I rented to. I had one potential renter who was going to bring in 3 grandkids under 5 for 2 weeks and I chose to rent to someone else instead. My home was not childproof and I was very concerned about that many kids in the house and around the pool.

Did you need to get "special" insurance or was it a typical home insurance policy?

Thanks for the feedback

Just went to the rental site and it appears that there are many pool homes for rent. Any suggestions/comments from those doing the rentals or renting?

It's called a fire policy if you aren't living in the house. But don't be fooled, it doesn't just cover fire. It's a little bit more expensive than if you're living in the home, but not cost prohibitive.
I used Tom Keedy, Allstate.

I don't have a pool, but when I rented my house out, my insurance was $1000 less than it is now that I live in the house.

I would be sure to buy an umbrella policy with at least $1 million liability.
