Whats with all the brown?
My wife and I began looking at TV 15 years ago and as of last Saturday we are full-time residents. We will be building in Dunedin. I'm amazed at how much brown grass I see on the golf courses and the brown on the palm trees. Also a lot of brown patches on lawns. Is it a lack or rain or what? Thought everyone had irrigation systems?

It has been very hot with no rain. Irrigation helps but it can't do everything without help from Mother Nature. Especially with that hot sun bearing down all day. This too shall pass. I hope!

Fifteen years and you never saw brown grass? It happens nearly every year......
|
This is the time of year that shows us all where the sprinkler heads are broken.
|
Never noticed it to be this bad. Most of the visits were at a different time of the year which probably makes a big difference.
|
I also think it's very bad this year. Early 90 degree weather and no rain. Some lawns look like they were sprayed with grass-killer. You can also tell which homes are owned by part-timers: lots of weeds & more bad areas than others. Somebody needs to do a rain dance! :MOJE_whot::MOJE_whot::MOJE_whot:

My wife were down visiting TV several weeks ago and it rained hard every evening during our brief time there. We bought a house and are coming back down this weekend to close on it and... the weather forecast is for lots of rain.
Hey, if you need rain, just wait for us to visit! |

Just learned today from the project manager of our new house in Hillsborough that this new zoysia grass was designed to go dormant in the hottest season (summer) and winter to save water in compliance with the water restriction/obligation The Villages has. Thus the boring brown grass!

Only half true. |
Some people have their lawns cut too short and with the lack of rain, it will have brown spots.
Some people turn off their sprinkler system when it does rain a goodly amount. The sprinkler guy has recommended they stay on all year round the accommodate when there is a lack of rain. The amount saved on water will more than make up for possibly ruining of one's lawn. At least that he has informed me. I'm sure it will be resolved as the rainy season arrives. |
