Baltimore Cops Indicted
 

All six of the Baltimore cops who were involved in the Freddy Gray arrest have been indicted by a Grand Jury. The driver of the van faces the stiffest penalty with charges of manslaughter and depraved heart murder.

None of the cops buckled Gray in the police van and he endured about a 45 minute rough ride before being taken to the police station and was unresponsive when the van arrived at the station. He died of a severed spine due to being thrown around the back of the steel van while shackled.

We will have to wait for the justice system to do its work....

In the meantime, homicides and crime in Baltimore have spiked sharply.

Is any one surprised? If you lynch the police, they stop policing.

Good luck to Baltimore ... they will need it.

If I were a Baltimore City policeman I would never make an "On-view " arrest again. If the States Attorney or judge determines to drop the charges for lack of probable cause you could arrested for assault or false imprisonment.

What is an "on-view" arrest?

An "on-view " arrest by a police officer is when that officer witnesses what they believe is a crime and makes an arrest. An arrest without a warrant. An example; I'm on patrol in a high crime area and I see a male running as hard as he can and carrying a purse in his hand. In the past I would have chased him down, cuffed him for my safety and checked the purse for ID. I would then attempt to locate the victim and get her story and go back to the station with my prisoner and completed the paperwork and charging documents . But now I would write a report on a suspicious condition and wait for a victim to call in a purse snatch or robbery. Why should I take a chance for the States Attorney to decide I had no probable cause and I get charged with false arrest, false imprisonment and assault. After all, its not illegal to run down the street and its not illegal for a man to carry a purse. Now, ill just be a kinder gentler cop. Be careful what you wish for.

I 100% support the police retreating to a much more conservative and overly cautious approach. Erring on the side that exposes him/her to the least risk or wrong doing. Whwn in doubt let it go down and document it.

You know I dont blame the cops in Baltimore a man that worked for me here left Baltimore because the crime rate and violence was so bad. He told me the blacks were destroying the city. By the way he is black.

The guy who worked for you is absolutely correct ... except no one is allowed to state the obvious truth like you just did

There is a huge leap from a cop doing his job in accordance with the city standardized procedures and willfully shackling a prisoner, shoving him in the back of the paddy wagon, and taking him on the rough ride - throwing him all around the steel interior and his pleas for help went ignored.

It will just be easier to write the police report and let the victim apply for a summons or warrant. This way the officer gets to go home to his family and not worry about indictments from a over zealous states attorney and ambitious mayor.

Here's a suggestion .... why don't you go live in Baltimore (ie the Sandtown area) for a few months and then come back and give us a report about your views on the evil, racist and hateful white cops who like to hunt down black kids for NO REASON at all. What do you think? That could make for some interesting reporting ... life on the front lines from a dewy eyed liberal.

Absolutely right ... if I'm a cop in Baltimore, I would be doing very little. I might report some stuff, but then again, why bother? Let them fight it out on the streets.
