Memorial Day Remembering Those Who Died

My brother posted this today on Facebook. He was a Screaming Eagle in the 101'st Airborne Division. Jumped out of helicopters into the jungles of Vietnam. Two of those who died were my neighbors. Two others were brothers of my two best friends. Population today of our town is 2,200. It was less then.

I grew up in Munith, Michigan, a very small town which lost all of the young men listed below to the war in Vietnam. We all went off together and most did not return. I know only of 4 others including myself that went from our little town and two of them were wounded. Needless to say, the war had a major impact on our town. Young lives lost for no reason. I wonder at times if politicians realize the impact of their decisions and the cost.

May they rest in peace and let us all pay our respects to them on this memorial day.

Thank you for posting the names of those who were lost. As you said, this is the day to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and we should never forget their names.

Today, I'm remembering my relative, Ernest. Ernest served with Company H, 23rd Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment (Union) during the Civil War. He was killed in action on 25 Nov 1863 during the Battle of Missionary Ridge. He was 38 years old. He rests in peace at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Today I am honoring and remembering my brother-in-law Don Airhart. 82nd Airborne Viet Nam. Served our country proudly and was taken too early as a result of exposure to agent orange. Loved him like a brother and miss him terribly.
