Wondering why lamp post signs are removed by snowbirds?

Wouldn't that help the "bad" guy, when identifying who is home?????

It's pretty easy to identify snowbird homes. There are no pots with plants, no lawn furniture, etc. This just adds one more clue.

We've never removed our name sign when we're not in residence, and I don't know anyone who does that.
Do people do that in your neighborhood?
We don't normally have pots in plants, we discontinue our newspaper and the POA paper.
Our Home Watch company keeps papers picked up and everything tidy.

Maybe those homes are rentals. I agree that you can tell which ones snowbirds have as they push lanai furniture againest the wall and/or cover them. There are other ways to tell them as well. Especially if you drive by the place on a regular basis.

The only places I've seen that have address signs removed are forclosures. My neighbors that leave have silver insulation boards covering all their windows. I think that is very dangerous. It sure tells everyone that they are gone.

I'd think that Seasonal Residents usually take their jewellery and valuables with them when they leave.
I doubt it would be very profitable to break into a Snowbird's home.

As I recall many of the break-ins occurred just after the resident left on an errand or activity. ??????????????????????????????/

We took ours down when there was threat of a hurricane. They're just avoiding another projectile. Same reason they take the patio furniture in. Good idea.

Perhaps the burglars interpret the insulation boards as a sign --
"No valuables here -- gone for the summer -- pass on by".

I have never noticed the snowbirds removing their signs. But I do cover my table on the lanai even when we are there just to keep the dirt off.

Hadn't thought of it that way, but you're probably right.

I thought the same thing sbout jewelry and cash -- you wouldn't leave it behind. I haven't heard of anyone stealing a sofa or dining room table and chairs.

jebartle 05-31-2015 03:45 PM

We have noticed that north of 466, removing name signs is the norm....Just wondering.

tomtbg2 05-31-2015 05:27 PM

I woke up to a burglar in my house.I ask what he was doing. He said looking for money,so I got up to help.

Nothing left in my home worth going to jail for, anytime!
