Street Names
 

I have always found street names interesting. I am a walker and I really enjoy walking through the various Villages and looking at the street names; many relate to the name of the Village. Today I was on Bailey Trail where they are just beginning to build. I particularly noticed the names on two signs where the streets intersected. One was Baldwin and one was Bassinger. Whoever does the naming of streets must of had a sense of humor knowing the tumultuous relationship Alec Baldwin and Kim Bassinger had during and after their marriage. Of course maybe using these names was just a coincidence, but I surely found it amusing!

What amazes me over and over is that they keep building new villages and new streets and never seem to run out of names! That is funny, though, about 'the corner of Baldwin and Bassinger'!

In Rancho Santa Margarita, CA where we once lived, there is the intersection of Antonio and Banderas. There was an article in the paper with a list of many more like that.

In West Chester, Ohio where our other house is, there is a corner of Grinn and Barrett. HONEST. The signs keep disappearing. :dontknow:

In rural Middlesex County in Virginia, there is a "No Head Bottom" road--can't imagine where that name came from. There is a "Bob's Hole" road which supposedly got its name from a cow (named Bob) who got caught in a bog-type hole and they had to use a tractor to get him out. Not quite as sophisticated as those in the City but definitely unforgettable!

I live just off of Horneytown Road (which goes to the community of Horneytown and we're in the Horneytown Fire District). They can't keep street signs up cause the kids keep stealing them.
The name comes from a family from our area whose last name is Horney.
You know in the south we have lots of double first names and
they named one of their daughters Norma Lee Horney.
Say that real fast...
She took lots of teasing over it, til she got married...

First time I heard that name, that poor kid growing up with that name and any other Horney kids that had to live with it.

I could never figure out why they named the towns around Lancaster Pa. Intercourse and Blue balls either! What were they thinking? :dontknow:

And in our neck of the woods we have 'Dingle Daisy Road' (presumably named after a cow too, though no one can say that for sure...).

Stop before I die laughing. I am trying to hang pictures in my new abode here on Havana Trail. Our house sign says "HAVANA BLAST".

I was quite surprised to find a Colleton Street since my maiden name is Colleton !
The street names are interesting. Seems they started out with Spanish Theme and then became varied as they continued to build.

In Nashville, Indiana we have a road by the name of "Less Traveled." During the Ford administration, the intersection of Rocky Ford and Washington Streets in columbus, IN made a minor news item. Also "loop" is a funny sounding word to my ear and it is used extensively in TV. I like to say "Fort Lawn Loop" which is in Caroline.
