murphy bed
 

I purchased a villa with a Murphy bed and I am considering moving it. Could someone who has one, give me advise on how to move it from one room to another. We will be coming to TV soon and really want to move it to another room. I would like to know what kind of screws are used to install...philip, square..
anyone know? :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow:

Bring a screwdriver of each type and you'll have it covered.

They are bolted to the concrete floor. It would be best to have someone help you do this.

there is a store in Southern Trace that sells Murphy beds and does the installation. I had one done this week and it is not something you want to do yourself. Their installation people were great.

We had one installed in our place about three years ago. It was the first piece of furniture we put in. If I had it to do over again, we have had very good results using air mattresses for short time guests and we would save the $2K on the Murphy bed and buy two or three $75 dollar air beds (which we did in addition to the Murphy bed). To me, the air beds are more comfy than the Murphy bed.

Thank you, however most of our company are older, and have trouble getting out of a normal bed, an air mattress won't work for us. However, would like the savings.

DRR47. I have a Murphy bed and it includes a regular, quite comfortable queen matress. When I don't need it I dont' need to walk around it.
I can't imagine asking my visitors to spend time on the floor. ???

I agree, we installed a Murphy Bed and maybe have used it 4 times in 3 years. The room is primarily used as a office the rest of the time. I would not want my guests sleeping on the floor in a air mattress.

Don't really have an opinion either way but I wanted to remind some of the posters that they now have air beds that sit off the ground by a couple of feet. They don't just lie on the ground any more. In fact if you put sheets etc. on them it is hard to tell just from the height. But if the money is no object then I guess a Murphy makes more long term sense.

Our place isn't completely furnished yet. We have a Murphy bed in the BR to be the office but no furniture in the other two BRs.

When we are in TV we use an air bed instead of the Murphy bed - it is just as comfortable as the Murphy bed, is a bit lower but not a problem, it is in the Master BR and more convenient to use the Master BR bathroom.

If we have one guest or two married/very friendly guests, they get the Murphy bed. If we have more than two, which happens nearly every trip to TV, we break out the other air beds. The second BR will be a sewing/crafts room and will not have permanent beds.
