Fiber Optics in TV

Do new homes in The Villages have fiber optics into the homes or do they still rely on copper? What is the fastest internet speed offered by the local cable providers?

There is fiber to the houses south of 466a, BUT if I recall correctly, it is only used by one supplier, NOT Comcast, but not sure which one it is as I do not use them.

We have Blast Plus from Comcast and get 65 mbps on the wired in desktop computer and about 40 mbps on the wi-fi laptop in the next room. It's not the fastest that they offer but it is excellent for both of us and we never have any delay in opening web pages or surfing. We are on our computers a lot.

Hi Tom,

We were able to stream 2 Hi-Def shows via Netflix at the same time with 10 Mbits/sec nominal download performance with CenturyLink. We are at 40 Mbits/sec download now (20 Mbits/sec upload). The 40 Mbits/sec is a bit of an overkill but we got a good deal from CenturyLink. They offer 100 Mbits/sec but I can't really see a need.

Brighthouse and Comcast also have large fiber optic networks however the last thousand feet is brought in over coax. Theoretically that can be a limitation but I've personally seen 155Mbps downloads speeds while recording three shows and running 3 televisions with a HD cable feed and a 4th streaming a 1080p Netflix feed simultaneously over coax.

You can't do that on CenturyLinks fiber connection. When I had CenturyLink in my home, every HD TV feed I had on reduced the Internet bandwidth 10Mbps and I was limited to viewing a maximum of 3 HD shoes at a time. The 4th box would display an image, but no HD programming was available if the other boxes were on.

Please don't judge network performance on the connection type. Theoretical performance and real world performance are two very different things.

Hey there Allentown! I was told there isa broken "fiber optics" line here on the "historic"side but when I spoke to the service fella, he said it was just a copper regular line! I believe him since he works on our lines all the time. Don't know of yours,t good luck!
