grand jury

I am not an owner, but do rent in The Villages. Does Florida have a county grand jury system? Where I live the tree issue would land there. People would be brought in, and under oath have to testify.

Yes, last year I was summoned for the Grand Jury in Sumter County.
They only serve for murder cases of which there are few in Sumter County.

Uhh....I'm not so sure the tree issue would land with a Grand Jury anywhere. Think about it. The cost of replacing the trees, and possibly some fines assessed by the Water Authority involved, only amounted to around $50K. Pretend for a moment that it was a $50K bank robbery - or jewel heist. How many Grand Juries have you heard of recently being given those types of cases? And, to make things even more complicated, and legally cumbersome, in this case, the State Attorney would be seeking a "no arrest indictment" since they have no one either charged, or in custody. Nope, until someone spills the beans for the reward money down the road, or some other development comes out of left field, I think this thing will go down in The Villages Urban Legend Collection as "The one they got away with!" :)

Tal, it was the cutting down of trees illegally behind some premier homes on Lake Miona in Bridgeport. It was "probably" done by one or more homeowners, but no one in the neighborhood will squeal, so the district has been fined and had to pay $50,000. If you do a search, you will find out a lot about it on the forum.

Thanks, CFrance. Who did not have a good view of Lake Miona because of the now cut trees and now has one? Follow the benefit in the other words.

Which can likely be boiled down to a couple of neighbors if someone spoke up - and give that person 25% of the recovered $50k. Result: one page in the Daily Sun.
