Palmer Legends Green Fee Reduces After 10 Years

In The Villages it often seems that if someone hasn't heard a good rumor by noon, they start one. Here's one such rumor that keeps popping up.
More than once in the past few years I've heard someone claim that when Palmer Legends reaches it's 10 year anniversary, the green fee will reduce because The Villages will no longer have to pay Arnold Palmer some sort of contractual fee.
Rather than believe a rumor - no matter how good it sounds - I contacted The Villages Country Club Administration and ask them if this or similar rumors had any merit. Here is the prompt reply I received:

Good Morning David –

I’m afraid that’s one of those infamous Villages rumors with no merit to it. Palmer opened in 2003, so it’s already passed it’s 10 year anniversary. However, I might add that the fees have not been raised at Palmer since 2010, closing the gap between the other courses, a fact I believe is largely overlooked by the golfing community.

Best Regards,

Erik Greualch, PGA
Assistant Director of Country Club Operations

The rumor was palmer designed it as a 18 hole course and had nothing to do with cherry hills. The villages had the guy who does the other championship courses do cherry hills. When palmer found out they were calling all 27 holes a palmer signature course the villages had to pay him a fee for 10 years. Naturally just a rumor and the truth will never be known

I was told that Arnold Palmer's design company was paid a one time fee, and he gets nothing after that.

According to Golf Digest the Cherry Hill and Laurel Valley courses were designed by Arnold Palmer. The Riley Grove course was designed by Lloyd Clifton.

Of course he doesn't mention the fact that the greens fees for all championship courses, except Evans Prairie, are again increasing across the board effective January 1, 2016. A fact that I believe was largely overlooked by Eric Greulach.

It's good that I have an open invitation to come back to work at the courses in KC if I ever want to - free golf, free cart, free clubs. And, why did we move??? Oh, yea - my wife feels safe here. Happy wife, happy life.

KC is not safe? I would keep that option to return...open.
