Bad Conditions Ignored at the Belvedere Pool by Rec Director at Pimlico

I "Used to" go to the Belvedere Pool. It was nice and the people so friendly. Now,
not too many people go to this pool. We have had nothing but DOUBLETALK from
the Pimlico Rec Director, and the pool is now known in our area as the GHETTO POOL.
The chairs are woven plastic, and in bad shape. The chemicals used to clean the pool, or whatever, have diiscolored and made large black splotches all over the chairs. They tried to
send some off to get rewoven, but they are now again, in bad shape. Our rec director decided to replace all the chairs in the Family and Visitors Pool, and to heck with the needs of our adult pool.
All of us have tried talking to her, and we get a reply as to the fact that she is getting
prices on new chairs. In the meantime, many new rec centers are getting the new
cloth chairs....this is why all of us have left this pool. No one even in their right mind would take a guest to this pool. It is a disgrace to The VIllages. I hope someone prints this out and sends it to John Rohan, or one of the developers, or the person head of the rec directors...something needs to be done.

This is hard to imagine. Do you think it is mold since it is black spots?

I am confused too about "Pimlico" director, is that part of the recreational region that Belvedere adult pool is in?

Should We Assume...

...that golferling notified the people in the Rec Department--John Rohan is specifically mentioned in the posting--before posting this here? There are effective ways to get things done and problems addressed. I'm not sure that a critical posting in a widely-read public forum is the best first step.

Nah...correct that. A critical public posting is NOT the best first step. The last step maybe, but certainly not until a lot of other resources have proven unresponsive.

I am sorry but I just have to comment on this. Wasn't there a time graciegirl when you only had 2 posts? Did that make whatever you had to say any less important to you? Oh wait, this is only my second post too, I guess my opinion doesn't count yet.

I don't mean to be sarcastic, but we all have to start somewhere, right? ;D

Welcome to the reality of the villages. Your area is past history it is developed. Complain to the developer or administration you have got to be kidding. As I have maintained, The Villages will continue to be a place to live fullfilling the "promises" when we bought only when we control our future. You will get change only if it means negative publicity.

I wonder if you can take pictures of the black spots and post them on here so we can help you. The directions to posting pictures are above since you are new to the forum.

Re: Bad Conditions Ignored at the Belvedere Pool by Rec Director at Pimlico

To quote the famous philosopher Muncle, has anyone made inquiries to the entities that actually make these kinds of upgrades and maintenance decisions? Somehow, I doubt the rec staffer at Pimlico (or even the facility manager) makes the ultimate decision. Pools are amenities and budgets and decisions are made by the Amenities division. It is my recollection that there is a schedule for replacement of wear items...bocce courts and shuffleboard courts are resurfaced on a schedule.

Golferling...I have no doubt that you and your neighbors have a legitimate issue. But, rather than talking to the local rec director, why not make calls to the main customer service #, the amenities division, or to the CDD office. Someone should be able to give you a straight answer on the plan and budget for replacing the deck furniture.

Bringing it up here will not get it fixed and only serves to rile people up when the facts on budget and replacement schedules are unknown.

Nah...correct that. A critical public posting is NOT the best first step. The last step maybe, but certainly not until a lot of other resources have proven unresponsive.

Posting here, or speaking publicly is a great way to get things accomplished. That's what this is all about, a public forum with muscle. This forum gives people leverage that they otherwise wouldn't have. It sounds to me like the poster has a legitimate concern and got no action from the person with whom she/he has direct contact. Not everybody has the same high level of assertiveness and we wish to give each resident a level field upon which to play.

This forum is not a last resort, it is a first resort. That's why our advertisers place their ads here. They want to reach customers now. We don't want them to consider us only after all other methods have failed.

We will never discourage people from posting here, be it their first or one hundred and first post.

Sorry about the editing --- I must take exception with the comment that TOTV is the first resort. The first resort is to contact the proper office in TV management, be it Janet Tutt and Co or the developer, and try to solve the problem at the lowest level possible. There are a lot of contact numbers available from whom to seek assistance. Even you local VHA rep might be able to point you in the right direction. Try to solve the problem before it becomes a major issue.

However, that might, and likely often does, fail. When that happens, elevate the issue. Got to the top of the CDD chain, go to the Developer, send letters to various editors, and by all mean, come to TOTV. I agree that there is a lot of experience on TOTV. Others may have experienced problems similar to yours and can help you. Or at least, it can let you vent.

But the main point is to try the proper channels first. Give them a chance to fix it before you contact the POA lawyers.

When I read the heading "Bad Conditions Ignored at Belevedere Pool", I thought for sure there were cracks in the pool, bird droppings floating on the water, rats playing marco polo, etc. :dontknow:

I used the Belevedere Pool enjoyably for six months October to April. Could the chairs have benefitted by replacement? No doubt. But IMHO, I hardly think discolored chairs justify such a dire heading!

You've got it wrong Barefoot - "The sky is falling, the sky is falling" We can't have spots on the chairs! Oh my!

Thank you for the post Bare, I trust your judgment. If I hadn't read your post I would have avoided that pool at all costs least i risk the wrath of stains transferring to my bathing suit.

Some of things I read are just silly.

As my byline says - Just my opinion!

Re: Bad Conditions Ignored at the Belvedere Pool by Rec Director at Pimlico

This forum is for everybody. We all know that what is important to one, may not seem so important to another. There are thousands and thousands of topics posted on this forum, and at the time of each posting, the author felt a sense of what was important to them at that time. I don't believe that other members should begin judging what is important or not so important, therefore discouraging people from posting here.

If any member or guest has a question about life or living in The Villages, they may feel free to post it here without being judged by a panel of others. This is a good place to start any query at any time. That's the purpose of this forum. As one member put it, it's a Library. If you want to know something, how to do something, how to contact somebody or get something done, post it here. If your question or comment is within the bound of good taste and conduct, the administrators of this forum will not discourage you from posting. We want, and welcome, comments from new members.

(A personal side note)

I am a ham radio enthusiast. The largest ham radio internet forum is QRZ. I will no longer post there because the veteran members are not friendly to new posters. Every time I have posted a question there, I have been told in no uncertain terms to "figure it out myself," or "why are you posting that here, you are suppose to know that," or "to post here, you have to have thick skin." What kind of forum is that?????? For the record, Talk of the Villages will never be like that as long as I am one of the administrators. I will not allow it. This forum is for everybody.
