Painting an appliance
 

Does anyone know of a company that paints appliances? I want to go white to black. Anyone have any experience with doing it? Thanks.

We did it. You can buy a can of spray paint that is made for appliances. It was easy, came out looking excellent.

We went to Home Depot and purchased Rustoleum spray paint for appliances. We did the front door of a dishwasher. The biggest challenge was taking off the door; so as not to spray excess paint all over the place. Do it outdoors with two or three coats of paint.

Another alternative is to take it to an automobile painter. A few years back, a friend of mine decided she wanted a red refrigerator (why I don't know) but she had an auto painter do it and it looked great.

Most appliances are painted with an Acrylic Enamel that is very hard (aka it stands up to abuse), so you want to use the same type of paint. Specifically designed appliance paint should be suitable, automotive paint (????). If doing any appliance with rubber or similar seals, be sure these are well protected with masking tape.

You can paint or have painted any appliance except the stove.
I worked for GE and up north we used to refer people to a company that also refinished bath tubs.
The company was called Porcelain Patch and Glaze. I don't know if there is a similar company in FL.

I once painted my dishwasher and it came out great. I used a roller which gave it a textured look.

One more item, if you are painting the appliance yourself, make sure it is clean, very clean. I would use a very good household cleaner, followed by a water rinse, followed by denatured alcohol, you need to make sure all of the potential built up grease and dirt have been removed as these will cause a very bad paint job. The store that you buy the spray paint should have suitable cleaners. Also, if you are using spray paint indoors, make sure you have lots of windows open for ventilation, and the paint spray will drift to other rooms. It would be best is the appliance can be moved to the garage or lanai, I would not do this outside. One other work of caution, humidity can cause the paint to take forever to dry, and may in some cases interfere with the finish.
I found this out the hard way after moving here, and spray painting a couple of small items....
