Single Lane Roundabouts Trial Run
I went for a ride this AM (9-10:30). North to south on BV from north of 466 to Hillsborough, then north on MB. There were several roundabouts(RAs) that workers were replanting and doing general maintenance. Cones were placed merging the left lanes on BV and MB, then completely closing off the inside lane of the RAs. Never had to put my foot down; nice traffic flow. Granted the traffic is not as congested as winter, but the traffic flow was just as quick as in the two-lane RAs. Try it and see. But hurry; they work fast.

Fine for maintenance once in a while. But not a chance of working on a permanent basis.

It works really well, almost got wrecked, leave things as they are !!!!!!!

Irk me again. it is not the circles, it that I never think other people drive well, the conflict between our wittle brochure and federal laws for highway markings and and that people just think about...did I say they do not drive well? I never think people drive well.

I tend to try to avoid the roundabouts, but when I need to use one, I am constantly looking left, right, in front, in the mirrors, and I USE TURN SIGNALS. So far I have had only one close call, I was cutoff from someone continuing around when I was getting off. I continue to be amazed at the number of people exiting from the inside roundabout lane to the RIGHT, resident lane, they should know they can go in the visitor lane with their card. This action cutoffs someone in the outside lane going to the resident lane. Please do not shoot the messenger, just my humble opinion. |

Sorry, but bad highway change to single lane roundabouts + bad drivers DO NOT equal good, safe traffic flow---rarely do 2 wrongs = a right. If the driver can't handle a simple roundabout in TV, good luck on the Belt Parkway in heavy traffic or US 1 in Woodbridge NJ

Haven't I seen this thread before? Maybe in another life? Seems so real....:)

Best way to use them is to assume nobody know what they are doing except you and I... And sometimes I am not too sure of the two of us either.

This is not rocket science. Just treat the round abouts as though they are straight roads. |
I see a very few people using their signal lights in the roundabouts and I think that is a good thing! It's not needed---slows things up and hard to trust them anyway.
