The pedestal @ the St James gate was knocked over & destroyed by a car this morning--its amazing how the gates & pedestals @ various village entrances are hell bent on committing suicide by car

Don't get excited - it happens often. The day after I moved in 5 years ago someone drove a truck through the building at the Buena Vista & Odell circle and drove away unhurt.

In the visitor's lane, correct? Probably explains the reason, either a visitor or a contractor or a lawn care service or a ........

Yep- those pesky visitor lane stations--they're real quick & sneaky--never trust one--they'll jump in front of you in a heart beat & scream "gotcha"

European Soccer "Flopper" trained?

The smasher might be in for a surprise bill. All the gates are covered by video. I bet the car plate number is being turned over to the Sumter County Sheriff's office.

D&Lsunfun 07-21-2015 03:36 PM

I saw the damage afterwards, from what I observed it may have been a wide load truck/trailer entering the gate. The entire scanner was on its side and the area around the scanner was also damaged. Someone probably has it on video. Check the Daily Sun, by Friday the accident will appear in the newspaper.

Was there striping around the scanner? This could have all been avoided if we striped around the scanners.

Shouldn't we do an engineering study first?

There was a woman driver in St. James that got that beat. March of 2014 she drove through the concrete wall around the Fairwinds Villas next to Sterling Heights Rec Center. The car went straight through bursting out onto St. Charles just missing people walking and driving by, but some of the flying blocks and debris did hit a car and injured a passenger. The woman driver had to be airlifted out. If you ever drive by that villa, look at the masonry wall along St. Charles, the wall is a lighter color right next to a closed gate opening. Ten feet to the right it would of been no big deal, she would of gone through a wooden gate, but it was all concrete blocks where she burst through. I never did hear about any update afterwards.

Holy smokes. That could have been a real tragedy. Hard to believe a couple of people weren't killed.

Maybe the card scanner was depressed and jumped in front of the car?

Jima64 07-21-2015 06:44 PM

the driver probably got an important text message or phone call that couldn't wait.

Lets see poles, trees, and other assorted hazards do this all the time. Guess the card scanners are just catching up. :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:
