One way to Port Everglades for Transatlantic

Planning on a Ft. Lauderdale to Southampton transatlantic cruise in April 2016. Looking for suggestions on how to get to Ft. Lauderdale for the start of the cruise. Don't want to drive and leave car there as we will be gone over 3 weeks and flying back into Ft. Lauderdale is more expensive than flying into Orlando.

You could rent a car one way

You can take Cruise Connection or Yankee Trailways buses. I have done this and have rented a car. I actually liked renting a car the best. I used Hertz in Spanish Springs and you drop off the car near the cruise terminal. Hertz takes you to the terminal in a shuttle.

If you book your cruise through Yankee Trails (and their prices are usually pretty good) then they will give you a free connection to the departure port (and bring you back when you are on a round-trip cruise).

Hertz Spanish Springs is the best way. Pick up the car the day before, pack it, and go when you want and don't have to wait on others or a time schedule getting on a bus. Select "Port Everglades" when booking as your destination. Returning back to Orlando Airport, book Hertz again and drop off in Spanish springs the next day. Have done this many times for transatlantics. Have a great cruise--love those long days at sea.

Just be careful to check the local office's opening times (especially over the weekend)

A friend found himself having to pay for an extra day as he couldn't return it within the 24-hour rental period (Sunday afternoon, from memory)
