Looking for bluegrass
 

I'm looking for some additional bluegrass artists. Here are some of my favorites and a song of each that you can use to check them out.

Have you tried downloading them? I didn't try them all, but I did do a few with no problem.

The best blue grass I have seen was in home depot. and ace hardware

I'm looking for artist suggestions. I've listed some of my favorites. Have any to suggest?

Tim O'Brien, Bela Fleck, Delbert McCoury, Sam Bush, Chris Thile, how about Steve Martin...the list goes on!

If you can stream You tube on your TV, you can be entertained for hours with any kind of music you want to hear. You can also do it on the computer but not as nice to watch.

Scrapple, thanks a lot for your specific recommendations. I’ve checked out your list and Tim O’Brien looks very interesting. I’m on the hunt for some of his stuff. I’ve already been through Del McCoury’s whole catalog and have plenty of his work. I think he’s terrific. I’m very familiar with Bela Fleck and would put him in the picker category. I don’t like heavily instrument bluegrass. Steve Martin is also in this category.

Sam Bush is more into progressive bluegrass. Progressive just doesn’t appeal to my ear. A good example is his treatment of the song Memphis in the Meantime. It just doesn’t work for me whereas I think the original by John Hiatt is a great song. I’d also put Chris Thile in the progressive camp. He was a player in the group nickel Creek and I could never get to like their stuff either.

I’ve listed my favorites in my original post. Here’s a few more. Doc Watson, Hazel Dickens, Ralph Stanley, the Stanley Brothers, Rhonda Vincent. Some other artists not known for bluegrass have a decent catalog. Patty Loveless, Jim Lauderdale, Emmylou Harris, and Dolly Parton.

Have you tried "Yonder Mountain String Band" sort of a drinking band. And then there's "Old Crow Medicine Show." If you like John Hiatt, You might want to listen to Guy Clark. I saw both of them and Lyle Lovett and Daryl Scott all play together as The Troubadors a few years back.

I had forgot Pretty Green Hills, gets to me too. Another artist you want to hear is James King. He has lots of great ones, but "Bed By The Window" really gets you to thinking, especially at our age.

My husband and I love bluegrass. Have you ever been to Cassia, Fl. ? Every other Saturday night they have all kinds of bluegrass artists picking and playing.
We also like to go to the Dam Smoker BarBQ, in Eustis...on Sunday afternoon. They always have a bluegrass band playing.

I just purchased this CD from Cracker Barrel and love it. Ralph Stanley duets with guest artist.
