Movie Go'ers. "What's In YOUR Purse?"

I heard on the news tonight that at least one movie theater chain has announced they will search movie go'ers bags, and backpacks as a deterrent to those people intending to do harm with fire arms brought into the theater. It's common knowledge that some patrons "smuggle" refreshments in bags and backpacks. This raises the question "what's in YOUR pocketbook"

They better not confiscate my stash of Werther's Sugar Free Coffee Caramel hard candies!

I haven't seen signs about no weapons allowed on premises at any of the movies I've attended. A shooter wouldn't adhere to that anyway. Many have a legal concealed carry permit. How would that be handled? Heck, if someone carried, I'd like them sitting next to me!
I don't think I'd go to that movie theater if they snooped through my stuff.

Ah, yes...brings back memories of Hurricane Katrina and the Superdome, 2005, when law-abiding citizens were stripped of their legal weapons. Thugs found a way to smuggle them in, as they always do, and brutally victimized the old and defenseless.

If this becomes general policy, many people will simply stop patronizing theaters and find other means of diversion...Netflix and microwave popcorn sound like a viable and more comfortable alternative; a lot less expensive, as well.

My thoughts, exactly.....

That same Movie Company has also posted a NO CC PERMITTED WEAPONS sign. Was on the 11 o'clock news last night with a picture of the sign. So your correct only the crooks will find a way.

they have no legal right to search yourself or belongings, but can refuse to let you in.
More losing your constitutional rights because of criminals.

Yep!

That's the theater chain that owns the Aurora, CO theater that had the shooting a few years back.

I do not see a solution to this problem except more education about the causes of such violence through links at Sheriff's web-sites as well as those from our public libraries. These would be about mental illness and how to deal with it, survivors/victims rights and services, and homelessness. Get more National Alliance on Mental Illness members to speak at public high schools and colleges.

The retired cop that had a concealed weapon near Tampa who got angry after the theater patron through popcorn at him is an example of the problem of having hotheads who have access to guns.

I would feel very comfortable if I had a very calm and well trained law enforcement officer sitting in a theater with a concealed weapon but how are you going to know if he has just had a very bad fight with his wife or not and came to the theater to cool off?

Just one more reason to not go to the movies.

You don't and can't stop it. Crazies and terrorists are always going to prey on public places. The only way is to come close is have airport security everywhere. That's not going to happen just like boarder security any time in the next 20 years.

Boy Howdy, I remember the underwear bomber on the airplane. Right after that they ban wearing underwear on airplanes.

Without your permission, they have no legal right to do such a search.
