Pool temperature
 

Anyone having issues with the temperature of their pool water? We have a solar heated pool. We have the solar off most of this summer. The pool temp has gone as high as 96 degrees. T&D had checked the thermostat earlier in the summer and found nothing wrong. They turned off the solar. At 9 am this morning the water was all ready 90 degrees. We have been here over 3 years and never had this issue. Not able to use the pool as much this year. Any insight welcomed.

While I do not own a pool, it occurs to me that when the filter system is running, you should be able to stick your hand in where the water is returned to the pool. If it is warm or hot, I would re-check the heater controls and valves. If you have an electric heater it is possible for the heater element to be partially on due to a short, when the thermostat is off.
If it is same temperature as the pool water, then I would guess you are getting a lot of solar heating from just sunlight on the pool. Do you have a dark colored lining on the pool? Can you shade it?,
We have a hot tub, with the heaters off 7 months of the year or more, and it sitting in the shade of the lanai, it will still get up to 92 degrees just from the pumps circulating the water. I use the bubble aeration to cool it off if it gets to warm.

curious, who installed your solar? I am 1.5 years from install, with extra panels, and getting no apparent benefit in temp.

Just an hour ago we swam comfortably with the air temperature being 95 and the pool temperature being 90. The pump circulating through Solar panels was on. TandD installed the whole shebang.

We had solar installed after the pool by Jack's solar. Makes no difference. Did you check thermostat settings on remote control from T&D? Ours were set up in the 90s after install and hot tub way over 100. I lowered them to reasonable temps of us (Debbie) and now fine. Lowered spa so we wouldn't be cooked like a Blue Crab. Check also if Pump 5 on, turn it off.

T&D said everything is fine. The thermostat is set at 80, but solar is off so it should not be running thru the solar panels. Is that correct? Don't know what pump 5 is.

Pump/valve 5 is the connection to the solar. It lights up when water going to solar panels.

The pools have all had problems this summer because of the heat. I think the only option is to install a chiller which is not cheap. The temps in the pools have been running over 90 degrees alot.

My pool stayed cool this whole summer. I have to run the solar heater daily to get it to 86 or 87 degrees. I have a birdcage with solar screen in the top. Maybe that is why it stays cool.

The rain should have helped keep the pool cooler than normal. Don't use the liquid pill or any type of liquid cover. You can also run your filter after dark through the solar panels ( to give extra exposure to cooler air) and that will help cool the water. If you ahve a waterfall or fountain run that too.

We had Jack's install our heater. The guy who installed it said we may need to replace the sensor on the roof after a few years. He said they went bad after a while and they weren't sure of the cause.

My pool was 87 yesterday. I attribute the coolness to all the rain. It has not been over 90 all summer.

While I don't have a pool here in Florida, I did have one in Michigan with solar heat. I didn't like the water to get any warmer than 80 degrees (I know that's cold for everybody in Florida). What I did was install a manual override switch. This way, I could turn Off the solar during the day and turn it On at night. By running the water through the panels at night in the cooler temps, it cools the water. Of course the night temps in MI are cooler than here too but I still think it would cool you pool a little.
