take out column in gardenia
 

Looking for handyman or carpenter to take out column in Gardenia. Any suggestions? Also someone to do dry wall repair.

Are those posts structural..or just cosmetic?

We have a gardenia, no column, so you could probably assume non load bearing. However, if you want to be sure, go to sumter county office building dept, and ask for a copy of your plans, they clearly show load bearing walls.
I would guess that you will also need to have the tile in that area replaced. I am guessing the column was installed then the tile.
The same probably goes for the ceiling, and with the blown in insulation, be prepared for LOTS of dust and dirt. Also, you will need to have the insulation replaced.
No idea on permits.

I witnessed the columns being removed from two Gardenias. Both homes had the columns installed on top of the floor tile. Both homes had tile throughout living area, no carpet.

Removing columns will require some drywall/moulding repair & replacement. Messy, but not major work.

Removed columns have been sold on TOTV.

Thanks for the info. I was very surprised that these were installed in the manner you described, but that makes the removal much easier then I imagined. just out of curiosity, was the ceiling intact when these were removed? That makes the project real easy.

A friend just bought a NEW home that had columns he contacted the Builder who did the removal after he purchased. You'd never know they were even there. Even the rounded corners came out perfect, ceiling match and everything. Have it done by someone who works with this stuff everyday not a I can do anything guy or you'll hate yourself trust me. JMO

I removed the column in the Gardenia I owned. We had been in the house about a year. Got tired of it, took it out. No problems in 7 years.

I have seen the columns removed and placed on each side of the sliding door in the great room. It's a nice look and doesn't break up the rooms like they do in the original locations.

They're cosmetic. We built our Begonia without the columns - they aren't necessary at all.

I assume you are referring to drywall. No ceiling drywall above posts but there was “drying framing” for the posts. Ceiling required drywall patching.
