Large Tree Removal

We have a couple of large oak trees that are dying and need to be removed. One of them fell on our house last month while we were out of town, so we must take care of the others that are threatening our house. Can anyone recommend a tree removal company?

Do yourself a favor, and double check with ARC is Oaks are a protected tree. If you go ahead and have these removed, you may face a fine.

But one of the trees is dead. The others we're just going to have trimmed back where the large branches are leaning over the house.

It appears that you are not familiar with TV requirement re tree removal - regardless of whether that tree is dead, alive or on its last roots!:
"Tree Removal: No tree with a trunk four (4) inches in diameter shall be removed or effectively removed through excessive injury without first obtaining written permission."

I would at least contact the ARC and explain your situation. They should be able to help you or at least help you find the correct solution . If the tree is dead ,TVs might be responsible in taking it down.

A neighbor was in the process of having a large tree removed (needed heavy equipment) and was stopped in the middle of the job and was told to undo what was done. An expensive mistake on his part.

Also, there was an article in the DS regarding Lady Lake banning hat racking trees (cutting the tree back radically to look like a hat rack) and issuing fines.

A friend had the same problem in TV a few months ago. Large oak tree had fallen and just missed her house destroying her fence. However, she had previously contacted the proper authorities here and described her problem (in writing), and asked their approval to cut the tree down before it did any damage. They said the tree was just fine, in their opinion. When the tree finally fell, she did not have to pay for the clean up and fence because she had the documentation in her files.
