King Cobra On The Loose
The news reported on Sept. 3 that an 8 foot long King Cobra had escaped from a house in Orlando - and news tonight said it is still missing.
How would a King Cobra escape from a house? Out of the enclosure and the front door of the house open? Strange - even for Orlando standards. Apparently, the owner had a permit for the King Cobra but ... a King Cobra? Does anyone remember the couple in Oxford, Florida (just a couple of miles from The Villages) who had a Burmese Python about 5 years ago that escaped from it's open enclosure and the snake killed their little 2 year child? Why not keep a cat or dog as a pet? As far as I know, you cannot cuddle with a King Cobra or Burmese Python. The AP news article about the escaped Cobra had the following: Officials warn residents not to approach the reptile if they see it and instead urge them to contact the agency's alert hotline." Sounds like good advice to me!! Let's hope they catch the snake before it slithers 60 miles to The Villages. |

How fast do they multiply? I know it is a massive problem below Naples.

That snake is something I would not want to run across while trimming my shrubs. It does appear to me that law enforcement is taking it very seriously. I think it's very odd to have a snake of any kind as a pet, but that's just me.

The guy that owns the snake is one of the main characters on the show "Airplane Repo".

i hardly think that a snake will make its way some 60 miles, across hiways and city streets, from Orlando to The Villages.

Pythons and Boas are fairly common pets compared to King Cobras. |

I predict the snake will ultimately become road kill.

As far as poison snakes, Florida, has some of the largest rattle snakes in the country, not to mention Cotton Mouths and Coral snakes. The last thing we need is Cobras. . |
Wonder what would happen if the cobra met one of the many pythons on the loose in Florida? That would be something to see! I'd bet on the cobra, especially one this size.
