Centurylink 911

I have Centurylink Internet and Prism TV. I do not have Phone service. When installed I was told that I could plug in a phone and it would be available for emergency 911 calls only.

For a long time I had a dial tone on the phone and I assume 911 was available. Now I don't have a dial tone.

Does anyone have Internet and Prism only service with 911 phone service available? Do you have a dial tone?

I am spoiled here in California with Verizon Fios service which I came to learn is not available in the Villages. I looked up alternatives to Comcast and did some research on Century Link and Prism. I was surprised at all their complaints on YELP. I don't think I found one that went beyond a one star rating. Guess I am stuck with Comcast when I get there in October.

Had Comcast for around 2 years, if you can tolerate poor customer service, their actual cable service and internet is very reasonable. Welcome to TV.

Ooma

You can get FREE nationwide local and long distance calling on VoIP. Keep you old phone number too. Once you buy an Ooma Telo Box ($90) you no longer get a phone bill, but they must charge you the federal and state communication taxes which amount to under $4/month. And 911 works too right from any phone in your house.

Your monthly cost goes from $60/mo plus long distance calls to $4/mo including all long distance calls. Pays for itself in 45 days.

Better than MagicJack too because it doesn't rely on your computer being on all the time and there's no annual user fee.

Goodbye Century Blink and Comcrash.

I have had Ooma for over a year. Works works, less than $4/month.

We use Magic Jack, and if you get the device that plugs directly into the router, your computer does not have to be on all the time. We don't get a monthly bill, but I think the yearly fee is $49, or something similar to what Ooma charges; just billed once a year instead of monthly.

Google Voice FREE in U.S. and Canada OBi100 VoIP telephone adapter on Amazon $39.99 no monthly fee. I have had one for 3 years. It works fine when Comcast works.

Via talk VoIP at $7.97 mo had the most bells and whistles and has been reliable for us since 2005.

Yes, I do have a dial tone, but.....I used to have a phone with the internet and TV through Centurylink. Now I only have the internet and T-V with Prism, just like you. Perhaps my dial tone is there because the account is under that phone number even though I no longer can use the phone except for 911. They cannot put your account under a cell number they told me. Sounds like you may need to check with them again.
