What's up with the Power Outage?
 

Anyone have additional new about yesterday's power outage? Are all the homes restored? I am surprised that SECO did not send out emails to it's customers advising them. There are still a lot of snowbirds up north and food
spoilage could be a big problem.

I have not heard anything more as to the cause etc.

The on line newspaper and this mornings paper both reported that a jumper burned open on a large power pole, about 70 feet in the air. This mornings paper also reported all customers back in service around 7 to 8 pm last night.

We live south of 466 and lost our electricity about two weeks ago. My prostate awaken me at 2:00 AM and then the lights went out. I immediately called community Watch and reported it (God bless this organization) and at about 3;30AM we had power again ( God bless SECO).

During that outage I thought to myself what if there was a successful attack nationally on our electrical power grid? I wrote my congressman an senator to express my concern.

And I guess you will get the usual form letter sent by some staff person who will have made a stroke count on your letter.

relying on power is a must for most, but most understand that things go wrong. Seco was onto the problem from the start and power was restored within an hour or so to most. It's really hard to understand why SECO would concern itself with a few spoiled food items when others need it for oxygen and such.

As for the email it could only come via cell phone as your home computer and wifi devices rely on the router which is powered by...tadah! home electrical.

I am surprised that you're surprised...do you really think all of our infrastructure is problem proof? Not in this life time and yet we live in the easiest time in our history...get a grip eh?:D

Hi JoMar: You are correct. Trying to communicate with a politician is like talking to a drunk a total circular conversation. No I believe myself unkind comparing a drunk to a politician. My apology drunk.

If you go up north for 6 months, why would you leave food in the fridge?
Snowbirds losing food, doesn't make sense.

Speaking as someone who worked in communications with Ma Bell for a hundred years, I'll say SECO and VCCD have a ways to go in keeping their "customers" informed during outages and emergencies.

For what period of time was the power off!!

How would SECO have the email address of the thousands of customers effected? I know they don't have mine. Usually when there is a power outage, you can call on the phone and listen to a recorded update. Plus, as already mentioned, without power an email sent to your computer would be useless unless you had a backup battery.

I believe SECO does a great job. My last bill was $87, that's about as cheap as you can get. Secondly, just north of 466A we've only had one power outage in 4-1/2 years.

According to these guidelines food in the freezer should remain frozen for at least a day.


Most people who leave for any length of time will not leave food in their refrigerator.

I have to agree with that one. Much to my husband's dismay, everything not consumed got tossed when we switched locations.

It was off for two and a half hours. I can't imagine snowbirds leaving perishable food behind.

This is nothing compared to the power outages we had up north.
