How does it work for couple "living together"
 

Hello! My question involves, "What if you are a man and woman 'living together,' how does it work in the Villages?"

I assume this isn't that unusual a situation...my significant other is a widow, and she still has a pretty nice insurance coverage that come from her late husband...problem is, it goes "kaput" if she re-marries. So in order for her to retain that, we just live together.

How can that work if we live in the Villages?

During the period of my surgery and recuperation, I lived in the home of a friend for a couple of years. The Villages would not treat me as a resident since I was not on the house title.

However, at one point we were told that if I would change my driver's license and car registration to the friend's address then I could get a resident ID card. I didn't do it, but got frequent renewals of my visitor's pass. I would be interested in the experience of others.

Is there a reason you couldn't have both names on the title?

My mother and her partner, who did not marry for similar reasons, were both on the title for the home, as joint tenants with right of survivorship.

ETA: This was not in the Villages. It was a small town in IA.

Welcome to TOTV! We have both of our names on the house deed and both of us have the green resident I.D. I think if others live in the home without their name on the deed, they get a blue I.D. which needs to be renewed every few years with proof of them living at that address. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong :D

That's what was told to us at an orientation. However Car 'from Tampa's comments seem to alter that explanation?

Socrafty is correct, my husband and I lived together before we married in TV. I rented my house so had to give up my green resident ID so my renters could have an ID. I was not on his house deed so I got a blue card resident ID, I had to prove my residency by having a drivers license with his address and was told it would have to be renewed every 2 or 3 years. When we sold both homes, and bought "ours", married, I was on the deed, so now I have a green resident ID.

OP............it's easy and works well.

I had to sign a form to get my renters a Non-Owner Resident ID card which is blue. I believe that resident card is good for three years. Mom and I turned in our resident cards.

Just wondering---I suppose it works the same way when a married couple has one house up north in one name and the home in TV in the other. No?

I'm not sure what the "it" refers to. Life here is the same as anywhere else.

Lots of unmarried couples live here. Lots of unmarried people live everywhere. I think wedding planners may be having a rough patch.

My fiancé has a Blue ID card because we are not married - she just had to fill out a form and show her Drivers license with the same address as mine. It was pretty simple, and there is no difference between the Green and Blue cards - just the color- all the same benefits. The form is on the villages site - districtgov.org

The "it" is The Villages ID card which allows you to enjoy all the amenities that The Villages has to offer.
