Shopping and stores?

I am trying to choose an area in which to live, and want shopping nearby as well as the hospital. I have spent time driving around Spanish Springs area and like the stores in the area, such as Publix, Walgreens, and restaurants, Applebees and Perkins.

It seems many people are buying in the newer sections south of 466. Are there any big shopping centers, either in or planned?

Hopefully, I will be able to drive for many, many years, but when I can no longer drive I want to be "golf cart close" to necessary places.

Thanks,
Pat

Re: Shopping and stores?

unsure I can add much, but

we just bought a new villa in Hemingway (new section just north of 466A) and proximity of shopping and dining was something we considered.

Publix and Walgreens is a mile away. LSL square is 3 miles (10 minutes by cart),

There are a few restaurants in the center (Beef O'Bradys, Chinese place, etc) but the entire strip of 466A is mostly undeveloped. As the homes come in, I'm fairly certain services will also.

Re: Shopping and stores?

Thanks. It seems like many of the properties I like are far from the shopping I might want.
Time for compromise.

Re: Shopping and stores?

Hi Pat, we own in the newer area also. I really don't find anything too far away. We're always up on 466 or 441 for all the shops. The Colony Plaza is near us on 466A and I know this is just the beginning. They are building all the way out to Wildwood. Brownwood would be on the other side of us, so we would be between LSL and Brownwood. The same thing happend to us in Illinois. When we first had our house built, not too much around, but I knew it was a growing area. Within 3 years, we had everything we wanted. I suspect this will be the same.

You'll find that when you move here and get used to the area, nothing is really very far.

As usual I am in 100% agreement with Chelsea. We bought in Hadley and we spent most of our 19 days that we were down furnishing the place going to stores. It was most convenient to get to Publix, Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, JCPenneys, Target, TJ Maxx, Bed Bath and Beyond, and just anything you can want. Soon there will be a Kohls and a Michaels. In fact as I look back, I spent more times in the stores than I did in the house. Now that we are furnished, I plan to inflict myself on my new friends. :2excited: :hot:

GracieGirl, Where are all the stores you mentioned? On 466A?

Thanks for the replies!

re: stores and shopping

Moving soon...where are the major shopping centers? Nordstroms, Lord and Taylor, Coldwater Creek, Chico's????

Russ_Boston 09-23-2008 09:12 AM

Oh you're the one that keeps those stores in business:laugh::laugh:

Lord and Taylor didn't even survive up here in the Boston market.

I'll bet either Ocala or Orlando is the closest for this type of store. Coldwater Creek and Chico's are more of a suburban store so maybe they are closer to TV than the other two. Plenty of shopping to be found near TV unless you need those big box dept. stores.

Russ_Boston 09-23-2008 09:19 AM

A little web checking:

Lord and Taylor have no stores left in FLA. The last was in the Florida Mall in Orlando but it looks like they have departed.

Nordstrom's is in the FLA Mall in Orlando.

As suspected both Coldwater Creek and Chico's have a location in Leesburg near TV.

Hope this helps!

The nearest large stores are in Altamonte Springs and Orlando, FL each a little over an hour from TV.

About 60 - 75 minutes from Spanish Springs in TV to the Orlando Airport. Maybe an hour to Millenia Mall.

Ocala's Paddock Mall has Macy's, Penney's and Sears - maybe a half hour North of Spanish Springs.

The drive to Orlando is less than an hour and more like 45 minutes if you live south. They have Ikea, and Crate and Barrel...most everything.

Aceskaters 09-23-2008 10:20 AM

Orlando is an hour and a half drive from here...down the turnpike.
