What's wrong in TV

When I come to this board I get the feeling I’ve entered a Shangri La. No place is that divine. Fess up there has to be things wrong with TV. Nobody can make a truly informed decision with only one side of the story. So out with it and I don’t mean little stuff like you can get your favorite tee time every day, let’s have the real dirt.

Have been here over 7 years and would live no where else. Once in awhile little things irritate me--like closing down the Aqua Driving range on El Camino--but the small irritations are made up for by all the good in this wonderful place.

Lone Traveler,

When we first came to TV on Lifestyle Visit, we made it a point to talk to residents specifically asking what they didn't like about TV. Got many answers naming pet peeves, but the last comment from all was: "...But I wouldn't live anywhere else". That was enough for us. We had 2 more visits over the next year and a half, and kept hearing similar comments.

Today, I give out the same response: "There are things done/not done here that I don't like....But far, far fewer that anywhere else I have been, or that I can think of..." This is home! :)

Re: What's wrong in TV

I hate that Democrats cannot have a fund raiser here -- they can never get a room for that purpose. A meeting room, yes, but not one large enough for any real purpose yet the Republicans use the town squares and Savannah Center. But, then, I do understand that the Morses are serious Republicans, have donated large sums to that party, and are friends with the major politicos and they do have a right to protect their interests as they see fit. I also understand that this is a vastly conservative and Republican enclave. I would like to hear and see the politicians for each side. That, for me, is a major complaint.

Let's see, the golf cart path north of 466 are truly awful -- bumpy and narrow.

I don't think I've seen such lousy drivers anywhere in the world. It is definitely a community where you need to drive very defensively.

In general, I'm not a big fan of the Morses. I don't mind that they're rich. They've earned their money. I do mind that they give the impression of being greedy (the penalties if a property doesn't close in time, their refusal to negotiate, their refusal to have closed captioning on the local TV station).

I miss the buffalo. I understand the Morses have a right to do what they want with their land. I understand that people were refusng to be safe. Nonetheless, I miss them.

I really don't understand why we have to use clear plastic bags for recycling, why we can't have bins like the majority of the country. I'm not a big fan of plastic bags in general. Why do we have to put lawn refuse in huge paper bags? If you're going to require special bags, why don't you provide them rather than requiring your customers to buy them?

I never thought I'd say I'm sick of oldies but I'm sick of the oldies from the 50s and 60s. I want to hear more from the 70s and 80s. Give me some Eagles, John Cougar, Springsteen, Mayall, et al. in the Squares and on the radio. I'd love to hear more variety in the squares rather than just on occasion.

Okay, that's all the gripes I can think of right now. All in all, the good far outweighs the bad and what is bad is mini-bad (more of an irritant than something to stop me from wanting to be here). Hope this helps you a little.

Re: What's wrong in TV

My biggest adjustment (not a gripe or complaint) was moving to a community where I'm at the younger end of the age curve. Example, in Pa I was a "senior" at age 58 in our gym. It was fun training the high school and college kids. I missed that. It took a bit of time to re connect with people who share my interests (running, body-building etc) but that is happening. I went through an initial adjustment (panic) that I wasn't gonna fit in because of my interests... WRONG! eg; new running club. Anyone interested in a body-building club?

There is no safer, cleaner, more active, more aesthetically pleasing place I would choose to live. It is hard to believe... when we did our lifestyle gig I was walking up to strangers trying to find someone who had a list of negatives. I don't think 80 thousand people are in denial... there simply are very few major negatives.

Dear Lone,

Notice that the replies mention stuff right up there with not always being able to get your favorite tee time?

Did you get it yet? This is a really nice place with thousands of really nice people. Might be the nicest place anywhere. We won't change when you get here.

nuff said,
THE END

Re: What's wrong in TV

I agree with Redwitch except about the Democratic fundraisers. I feel that the Morse's being very involved with the Republican party would naturally cater to that party.

I don't dislike the Morses. I don't know anything about the Morses and I wish I did so I could think of them as real people with a real family. I just wish that they would make themselves more visible. If not more visible, appear to be more "user friendly". I can't compliment their business acumen enough, but after people make so much money, money is no longer the issue or what they are striving for. I think that they are somewhat non sociable or shy, if you will. I have heard that said about the senior Morse, that he is shy. AND if you are reading this Morses, I think it would be in your best interests to hire a good public relations person, cause I am tired of defending you. And If you don't care, then I don't like you as much as I did.

The rest is just wonderful. I think it draws people who LIKE to interact with other people.
So if you were just going to sit by yourself at the pool and read and don't like to talk to other people, then maybe the villages isn't the place for you.

I like the inexpensive meals that can be had here. I don't like the higher prices at Publix compared to Cincinnati, so we plan to grocery shop in nearby Leesburg.

I think that is it. I don't have any negatives more to share at this point.

The thing that bothers me the most about TV is that I am not there yet! I am in the wanna be there club -

I love The Villages, BUT it is SO Republican--newspaper and all. Would like a little more even handedness politically.

The Villages Florida (are we still doing this) :dontknow:
Smalldog Sez the Morses have a way of doing some things that seems sneaky and underhanded ::)...... other than that I pretty much agree with Red Witch except for that Democrate thingy .......... once again it's not completely perfect( they ought to consult me :o) but since this is still the third rock from the sun, not to bad at all
I do have a series of pet peeves as I'm sure most of us do .......

I see you are back to feeling your normal self again with a comment like this. Funny, the people that call others these things are the ones usually stirring crap up, so who is the malcontent??? Hope your health is better, but curing an attitude seems to be a different story.

Thanx RCT,

Occasionally I think about how wonderful life would be if everyone were more like me --- did they do a Twilight Zone like that?

Actually, life's too short to take it all that seriously. However some people and organizations just aggravate you and every once in awhile, as my Brit and Irish friends would say, you just gotta take the **** out of 'em. Generally no harm done, since if you do it right, they won't understand.

There are things here that aren't perfect, but at least one person I know that used to post those imperfections, was banned from Talk of the Villages for being "too negative". So, draw your own conclusions. I am happy living here, but I too, think there is room for improvement.
