cardboard -recycle or yard waste?
 

I noticed that old cardboard is listed under recycle and cardboard boxes under yardwaste. I have many time used moving boxes do I put them out as recycle but they won't fit in those clear bags. or on Wed. with the yard waste. Also it says biodegradable bags for yard waste can I use a cardboard box. I could in Seattle but they do things different here.

You don't have to put the cardboard in anything. Just set them at the curb once per week on the Thursday pick up.

I usually flatten them and leave them in a stack. Or use one to hold the ones broken down.

in Sanibel the recycle truck takes cardboard boxes...if they're large you're supposed to break them down. How about a website where you read that cardboard boxes are yard waste as I haven't seen that anywhere...

As for what they do in Seattle...you aren't in Seattle as I'm not in Maine so I don't compare things done here to there...apples/oranges mate...

I said I wasn't in Seattle and recognize they do things different here that's why I asked the question. And it is page 30 of the Resident Guide not online. Also I was asking if a cardboard box would be accepted as a biodegradable container for yard waste. Sorry if I bothered you, I thought the purpose of this forum was to ask questions. I will call them direct.

Trudy - I have not seen a box used to hold yard compost for pickup. I can tell you that they seem to be very picky, even specifically noting the dimensions of the paper bag they want people to use. These can be picked up at Publix, Winn Dixie, or the 2 home improvement stores on 441. Most of our stuff is tree debris so we break it into manageably sized pieces and just stack it at the end of our driveway. Do you know the pickup day for yard trash in your village? It is a separate day of its own - not on the days that rubbish or household recyclables are picked up.

And yes Yard waste here is Wednesday apparently. Good to know as biodegradable which is what their instructions say is a wide category.

and it was more than question asking...if you'd have quoted the passage perhaps it could be interpreted differently as the guide I received didn't say no to cardboard boxes of any kind...pretty sure it's the same guide...

You didn't bother me I just don't see the relevance in telling folks what they do somewhere else...it's useless information in your quest to get and answer your question. Your reasoning is not in agreement with mine and that's okay as we're never to old to learn...he said with a grin and not a smirk...

If a person can't take useful criticism on line where millions can read it then they ought to stick to the phone and face to face discussion...

A forum is a place to give an take ideas and in doing so enlightening others and themselves in the process. Personally I don't take offense when others point out things I might say or do...but I do take it into consideration...hey we're all human...?

"Cardboard and Chipboard

Acceptable: Corrugated cardboard, cereal or cracker boxes, shoe boxes, milk cartons, egg cartons, juice boxes and frozen food boxes. Flatten clean, corrugated cardboard or chipboard.

Break down and place in bundles no larger than 3’x3’ in size. Remove liners from cereal/cracker boxes."

Not sure what you read and since you won't copy the instructions from where you got it it's not possible to understand your issue.

I think it's interesting to hear how things were done in different parts of the country. If we all stuck to only what pertains 100% to the topic (which she started anyway), this could get pretty boring.

You could always try putting yard waste in a cardboard box. It'll take one week to find out, and then you'll know.

My husband has a chair out in the garage, a cocktail, a radio, and a box cutter. Sounds scary, but he's just enjoying himself while cutting and flattening boxes.

Maybe I'm wrong but I think black plastic yard bags are ok for yard waste.

I thought the whole idea of using paper bags for yard waste is that the paper bags used are biodegradable and plastic is not. :confused:
