Moffitt Center
 

Do not want to start a rumor, but a fellow Villager posted in a group I belong to that the Moffitt Center will be leaving the Villages as of Oct. 15.
Has anyone else heard anything about this?

Moffitt is moving out. Florida Cancer Specialists will be moving into the facility.

Same personnel and same capabilities just change the sign.
Thousands of people treat here in TV before Moffitt. Thousands more will be after they leave!

Florida Cancer Affiliates is already associated with Moffitt. Their Lady Lake staff has been located in adjunct offices across 441 for some time. Doc told us a few months ago that the plan was to move into (join with, not replace) the Moffitt offices at some point. My guess is that this move is finally happening, but we have an appointment next week and will try to clarify.

I have been told before that our Moffitt is not associated with the Moffitt in Tampa. Is that true ?

I heard about this today at the neighborhood pool. A friend who is being treated at Moffit received a letter informing him of this and offering him treatment in Tampa, or he can get his records and go elsewhere. I will be interested in any clarification anyone can get. What about all the fundraisers we had here to buy state of the art equipment? Are they taking it with them when they leave?

I had a friend who was being treated by Moffitt in Tampa. She had to go there because they couldn't treat her here until the final part of her illness, when she had radiation. I too wonder about the fundraising.

So what does this mean for our future? Thank God I am not using their services, but friends are. I am very concerned. I, like others, gave lots of money to get them going, buy medical equipment, etc. What is happening and why is this not in the newspapers or on the on line news source. It does not appear their stated commitment is fulfilled, or perhaps it was only for a specified time. That could be the case? I will be seeking answers. This was a major selling point for The Villages.
